Passion: My secret passion is to drive across
the United States and visit the Federal Parks.
I also enjoy boating on the Columbia River
and Detroit Lake. I would like to take a Alaska
cruise from Seattle to Ketchikan, to Fairbanks,
to Juneau, and fly to Anchorage and then
home again. I enjoy visiting and caring for my
grandchildren, reading, and attending church.

Why local community journalism is important:
Local journalism changes lives for the better,
makes us aware of the issues of homelessness,
climate change, social services, and the need for
more police protection. Journalism is unbias and
encourages citizens to improve their capacity
to read and write and make informed decisions
regarding living their lives to their potential.

BY CHARLES GLENN
Of the Keizertimes
Keizer’s Traffic Safety, Bikeways and
Pedestrian Committee is hosting a bike
skills fair at city hall on May 19 from 1-3 p.m.
Committee member Hersch Sangster, who is
coordinating the event, says it’s open to kids
of all ages.
“ODOT is supposed to have a booth, as
well as Safe Routes to School, and Northwest
Hub will be here to do bike inspections and
very minor bike repair,” said Sangster.
He said groups of five to 10 kids will begin
in the lobby where they will receive some
basic instruction.

Bike skills fair at city hall slated for May 19
“I have a 3 rd grade teacher who is a Safe
Routes to School instructor who will give five
or 10 minutes of instruction on bike safety
and some of the skills they’ll be practicing,”
he said.
Northwest Hub and other volunteers will
do the bike inspections while the kids are in
the training. The kids will then go through
the course itself, which will be set up in the
parking lot. At the end of the course, Keizer
police officers will escort each group on bike
rides.
Sangster said the event itself will mostly
be held in the south parking lot at city hall.
