JUNE 25, 2021, KEIZERTIMES, PAGE A7 Take your shot before Local playwrights will be June 28 or lose your stars of Keizer production chance at prizes In cooperation with Keizer Homegrown Theatre, 45th Parallel Playwrights will present a showcase of excerpts from Eight Unparalleled Plays on July 18, at 6:30 p.m., on the patio of the Keizer Cultural Center, 980 Chemewa NE, in Keizer. The event is free to the public and seating is limited. The plays range from the absurd to real life stories. Some perfor- mances are complete short plays, while others are brief excerpts chosen as representative of a lon- ger work. Most of the work will be directed by the author and acted by members of the group or volun- teers from the Salem-Keizer theatre community. Each of the plays is by a mem- ber of 45th Parallel Playwrights, a group founded two years ago by Lynn Millar as a vehicle for play- wrights to hone existing plays and create new works. Commentary between the playwrights is con- structive and based upon mutual respect, regardless of the subject matter or experience of the author. The plays selected for the Eight Unparalleled Plays showcase are considered completed works and were chosen for their variety. “It is the dream of every play- wright to see his or her work per- formed before a live audience,“ said Millar, “COVID really shifted things for us. We had planned a show- case last year, but the pandemic made staging our work impossible. Thankfully, Linda Baker and the folks at Keizer Homegrown offered us a place to perform our works and assistance with finding players. We couldn’t be more delighted with the arrangement.” The following short works will be performed with a 10-minute intermission: Drum Circle by Mike Jaffe, Covid Maud by Lynn Millar, Bunny and Vincent by Jenifer Kay Hood, Life and Their Star by Abrianna Feinauer, Prima Donna by Debra Vassallo, Handles by Nathaniel Dunaway, Styx by James Kemp and The Play by Richard Poudrier. Kate Brown urged Oregonians to get vaccinated as soon as possible, with less than one week remaining before the first Take Your Shot, Oregon drawing on June 28. Oregonians 18 and older have the chance to win $1 million or one of 36 $10,000 prizes––with one winner in each county in Oregon. Oregonians age 12 to 17 have a chance to win one of five $100,000 Oregon College Savings Plan scholar- ships. Oregonians must receive at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine before the draw date to be entered to win. “Don't miss your chance to win $1 mil- lion––if you have been waiting to get vac- cinated, go get it done today," said Brown said. "It's never been easier to get a vaccine, so don't miss your shot to enter. Vaccines are the best tool available to protect your- self and loved ones from COVID-19." Oregon is achingly close to hitting a 70% adult vaccination rate statewide. Once the milestone is reached all coronavirus restrictions will be lifted. Along with the reminder of a looming deadline, the state announced new prizes as part of the program. Four travel packages to destinations around Oregon have also been added cour- tesy of Travel Oregon. The travel prizes are valued at up to $2,000 and include lodging, accommoda- tions, dining and activities for two at iconic Oregon travel destinations. In addition, sev- eral counties have partnered with the state to add additional prizes for the Take Your Shot, Oregon campaign. Take Your Shot, Oregon drawings will begin on June 28, with winners announced in July. All Oregonians who have received a federally-administered vaccine dose, such at a VA health facility, Oregonians vac- cinated out-of-state, and those who were vaccinated during a clinical trial can go to takeyourshot.oregon.gov to fill out a simple online form to make sure they are entered to win. People who received vac- cines through Tribal vaccination clinics and sites are already entered to win and do not need to sign up individually. Funding for the statewide prizes is coming from Oregon's share of the federal Coronavirus Relief Act. Classified Marketplace MISCELLANEOUS DONATE YOUR CAR TO UNITED BREAST CANCER FOUNDATION!
