JUNE 18, 2021, KEIZERTIMES, PAGE A17 Keizer Heritage honors two Community dinner June 23 Celt seniors with $1,000 The Keizer Heritage Foundation has awarded $1,000 scholarships to two McNary High School seniors. Elise R. Ali maintained a 4.0 GPA during her high school education. She plans to attend George Fox University in Newberg. In school, Ali played soccer and served as team captain this year. She hopes to become a certifi ed nurse-midwife and open her own clinic in a rural area. She also wants to establish a photography business with a studio, focusing on fam- ily, maternity and newborn portraits. A Keizer resident since 2010, she fi nds the community welcoming and friendly. Layne M. Ling also maintained a 4.0 GPA during her high school years. Her immediate plans are to attend Chemeketa Community College for two years, then transfer to Western Oregon University to pursue a degree in music education, eventually earning a master’s degree. Her career goal is to become a band director at the middle school level. At McNary, Ling played clarinet in the wind ensemble and played alto saxophone in the jazz band. She has volunteered in a number of capacities at school, church and the Salem Public Library. St. Edward Catholic Church will be hosting a drive through community dinner. The event will be on Wednesday, June 23, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The church plans to sit together for dinner later in July while still follow- ing COVID-19 guidelines. Saint Edward Catholic Church is located on 5303 River Road N., Keizer. Donations are appreciated. Speed Bump By DAVE COVERLY Splash fountain opening slated The City of Keizer Parks Division is planning to open the Splash Fountain in Chalmers Jones Park, located behind the Keizer Civic Center at 930 Chemawa Road N.E., beginning Tuesday, June 22. The Splash Fountain, which opened in 2010, will operate Tuesdays through Saturdays from noon to 7 p.m .The hours of operation will be from noon to 7 p.m. daily.
