Advantage Heating and Air Conditioning LLC. owner Dan Sommers and his com- pany made the commitment to give back generously to the community they serve and they elected to make the ben- efi ciary our community fi rst responders, police and fi re- fi ghters in the Salem/Keizer area. With the goal of raising funds for projects that might otherwise go unfunded for emergency responders, the Advantage team reached out to Daikin Heating and Air Conditioning Manufactur- ing Company who agreed to match their contributions dollar-for-dollar. Working also with the Salem and Keiz- er chambers of commerce, businesses were quick to get behind the fundraising effort. All-in-all, the group raised $28,550 to be divvied up evenly four ways, between Salem Police, Keizer Police, Salem Fire and Keizer Fire. Contributions will go directly to their respective non-profi t foundations such as the Keiz- er Fire Foundation, Salem Police Foundation, Salem Fire Foundation and Keizer Police. The Keizer Fire Founda- tion intends to put the funds immediately to work in the community by purchasing smoke alarms and going door Volunteers sought for Forest Ridge book fair Volunteers are needed for the Scholastic Book Fair at Forest Ridge Monday, Oct. 23 to Friday, Oct. 27. The Keizer Fire Foundation will put its portion of the money into purchasing smoke detectors and investing in a public education campaign. to door in a public safety ef- fort to assure a working smoke alarm in every home. Advan- tage employees have pledged to help that installation effort in Keizer too, and go door to door beside the fi refi ghters as their technicians have the expertise to install the simple smoke alarm devices as well. Members from Advantage Heating and Air Condition- ing, Daikin, Salem and Keiz- er Chamber of Commerce, Keizer Police, Keizer Fire, Salem Police, and Salem Fire all joined in the check pre- sentation ceremony alongside Salem Mayor Chuck Bennett, Keizer City Councilor Laura Reid, and foundation presi- dents of each benefactor orga- nization. Earlier in the month, repre- sentatives at Avamere Court at Keizer dropped off a $300 do- nation at Keizer Fire Station, proceeds from a gift basket raffl e, along with an array of edible treats from the Avamere kitchen. Keizer Community Library will have it’s annual fall book sale on Friday, Oct. 4, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Keizer City Hall, 930 Chema- wa Road N.E. All the funds raised at this sale go to support the Keizer Community Library. Hardcover books, audio books, CDs and DVD’s are $1 each and paperback books and VHS tapes are 50¢ each.
