KEIZERTIMES/Eric A. Howald Workers with Dreamland Skate Parks frame out the sides of a reconstructed bowl at Carlson Skate Park. Tuesday, Sept. 17. Skate park redux begins By ERIC A. HOWALD Of the Keizertimes Riding in Carlson Skate Park is about to get a lot more epic. The Keizer City Council awarded a con- tract for improvements to Carlson Skate Park at its meeting Tuesday, Sept. 3. Judging by the new bowl framing being put in place earlier this week, the renovation is going to change the riding experience dramatically. Dreamland Skateparks LLC was the only entity to place a bid on the project. The cost will be $199,000. While pricey, the bid came in well under the $250,000 amount allotted for the project in the city’s annual budget. Under the terms of the contract, work is to be substantially completed by Nov. 4. The work includes rebuilding the bowls and half pipe area of the park as well as more surface sanding and sealing. Last year, the city paid to sand signifi cant portions of the surface and that alone renewed interest in the park and more regular usage. When parks offi cials held a forum and invit- ed users to offer their suggestions for improve- ments late last spring, it was one of the most well-attended city meetings in recent memo- ry. The project is being paid for with money collected for parks services on the city’s utility bills. puzzle answers creative help wanted Part-Time Graphic Designer — Keizer On behalf of our sister newspaper (Malheur Enterprise), Keizertimes is seeking an entry-level graphic designer to join the team in our Keizer offi ce.
