PAGE B2, KEIZERTIMES, AUGUST 2, 2019 KPD raises over $9,000 for Special Olympics On Saturday, July 27, the Keizer Police Department (KPD) raised more than $9,000 for the Oregon Special Olympics with their 5K Foot Pursuit for Special Olympics. Jenny LeBelle, the local program coor- dinator for Marion County, said they were hoping for $3,500, and was brought to tears when she discovered that more than twice that amount was raised. KPD Community Outreach Specialist Dorothy Diehl said this was not the fi rst time that the department has worked with the Special Olympics, though most of the events did not take place in Keizer. It’s somewhat typical for police departments to support the Special Olympics. “We wanted to do something in Keizer where our citizens could support us,” Diehl said. Brennan Whalen (15-18 IM), Andrew Zeller (11-12 free) and Zach Har- rington (13-14 free) each won an event for North- wood. Paris Boyd carried the torch for the Northwood girls as she won the 15-18 IM, free and fl y. Evy Hales fi nished fi rst in the 9-10 back and Amelia Pack was victorious in the 6-U fl y. Northwood’s boys and girls teams also won three relay events each. Northview Terrace placed fi fth in the overall scor- ing with 156 points. They were led by their boys team, who picked up 123 of those points. Zach Kilby was the only multi-event winner for Northview, as he picked up wins in the 15-18 free and fl y. Jeremy Becker (13-14 IM) and Luke Stucker (13- 14 breast) rounded out the individual wins for North- view.
