Hops take two out of three from Volcanoes BY HERB SWETT Of the Keizertimes The Volcanoes opened a three-game series in Hills- boro on Sunday, July 14 with a 7-3 loss to the Hops. Salem-Keizer had a 1-0 lead for the fi rst inning and a half. With two out in the fi rst, Franklin Labour hit the ball over the right fi eld fence for his 12th home run of the season. Then, in the bottom of the second, starting pitch- er Alex Dubord yielded two runs to Hillsboro, and the Volcanoes never caught up. Tristin English started a two-run rally in the second with a one-out single to center fi eld. Jesus Marriaga singled to right, moving En- glish to second. Ricky Mar- tinez singled to right, driving English in and moving Mar- riaga to third. Nick Dalesan- dro scored Marriaga with a sacrifi ce fl y. In the Hops third, Nick Grande led off by reaching fi rst base on a throwing error by shortstop Tyler Fitzgerald. Jorge Barrosa sent him home with a triple to left center. Barrosa later scored when Andy Yerzy grounded into a double play. Two more Hillsboro runs came in the fourth after Chris Roberts relieved Du- bord. Travis Perry took the mound at the start of the Hillsboro fi fth and fi nished the game. He gave up one more run as Marriaga scored on a Dalesandro single to center. Deyni Olivero was the starting and winning pitcher with a 4-1 record. He went 5.2 innings and was succeed- ed in order by Yaramil Hiral- do, Jacob Stevens and Bryan Please see SKV, Page A11 BY MATT RAWLINGS Of the Keizertimes In one of their fi nal tune- ups before the All-City meet, the Holiday Swim Club de- feated Cambridge 405-186 in a dual meet on Thursday, July 11. Kassy Winters and Audrea Guevara won three different individual events to lead Holiday to victory. Winters won the individual medley, freestyle and butter- fl y in the girls 15-18 divi- sion while Guevara brought home wins in the breast- stroke, fl y and free in the girls 11-12 bracket. Anna Sponable and Erika Robinett dominated the 13- 14 division. Sponable won the fl y and the free while Robinett was victorious on the breast and backstroke. Ava Privratsky was also able to win multiple events for the Holiday girls team, placing fi rst in the breast and free for the 8-and-under di- vision. Claire Hicks and Emma Privratsky each picked up one event win. On the boys side, Jack Mc- Carty and Michael Hudgins won three events each for Holiday. McCarty won the IM, as well as the back and fl y in the 15-18 division. Hudgins, on the other hand, led the 9-10 class by winning the back, free and IM. Renaldo Guevara was the other multi-event winner (fl y and breast) for the Holi- day boys in the 8-and-under division. Landon Perry, Nathan Williams, Landon Gerig, Carter Hollis and Joshua Grossman also picked up in- dividual fi rst-place fi nishes. The All-City meet will take place at Holiday Swim Club on Saturday, July 27, and will feature two other Keizer teams (Northview and Northwood) and three Salem teams (Cambridge, Madrona and Jan Ree).
