Williams shines at WOU
Former McNary standout
Jonathan Williams wrapped
up a stellar freshman sea-
son for the Western Oregon
University Lacrosse team
over the spring.
With 59 goals and 10 as-
sists, Williams led the Wolves
in scoring and was a fi rst-
team all-Collegiate Lacrosse
Association performer and
was also recognized as a
third-team
All-American
midfi elder as he helped the
Wolves to a 9-4 record.
Williams scored a goal in
all 12 games he appeared in
this season.
His best performance
came in a 20-10 victory
against Cal State San Marcos
where he scored eight goals
and had three assists. Wil-
liams also had seven goals
and two assists in a 24-3 win
over Pacifi c Lutheran.
Williams is currently pur-
suing a degree in excercise
science.

Sean Roby, the Volcanoes’ third baseman, who
is leading the Northwest League in hits, is our
Athlete of the Week. He has hit only one home
run so far in 2019, but more are likely to come.
He also keeps his errors down for a third
baseman in the lower minors. This 20-year-old
Indio, Calif. native is one of the main reasons for
the success of the Volcanoes

The Volcanoes avoided
a sweep with this victory
over the hard-fi ghting Boise
Hawks.
Boise had a 3-0 lead going
into the fourth inning when
Salem-Keizer went ahead
with a four-run fi fth. Six
more Volcano runs came in
the sixth and one more in the
eighth, but the Hawks added
three in the eighth and two
in the ninth.
Ricardo Genoves had
three hits for the Volcanoes,
including his fi rst triple. Sean
Roby, Yorlis Rodriguez, and
Kwan Adkins had two each.
Simon Whiteman hit a three-
run double in the fi fth.
Tyler Schimpf was the
winning pitcher in relief of
starter Jacob Lopez, with a
1-0 record. Bryce Tucker got
his second save. Rayne Sup-
ple, also in relief, took the loss
(0-1).
