MARCH 8, 2019, KEIZERTIMES, PAGE A9 WMS mentor earns regional award The Northwest Coun- cil for Computer Education (NCCE) recently honored a Whiteaker Middle School instructional mentor as the 2019 Outstanding Technolo- gy Educator of the Year. Hurst, along with White- aker Principal Julia Dewitt, traveled to Seattle in Febru- ary he accepted the award and a $250 cash prize. Hurst was honored for being a strong peer lead- er and instructional men- tor at the middle level and throughout the district and state. His contributions have been effective and shared by the whole district. He intro- duced 1:1 iPads before the district had any 1:1 programs. NCCE is a national ed- ucational technology pro- fessional development or- ganization. He models that he is a learner by being a role mod- el and pushes himself to be vulnerable and to be always learning.” Hurst has attended NCCE events for several years and presents his fi ndings and shares his expertise with peers. “Matt’s contribution to the ed tech profession in the Northwest is immeasur- able,” said Dr. Heidi Rog- ers chief executive offi cer of NCCE. “He fi nds a way to get big concepts accom- plished and brings a positive attitude along with it. It is a pleasure to honor one of our long-standing presenters as the 2019 NCCE Teacher of the Year award recipient.” Hurst joins a prestigious group of technology edu- cators in the Northwest, in- cluding IT directors, super- intendents, ESD technology directors and principals.
