It was Salem-Keizer’s 20th win of the season, well ahead of last year’s pace. There were three home runs in the game, all by the Indians, but Spokane also committed fi ve errors. Spokane started the fi rst inning in a big way, with a leadoff home run to right center fi eld by Starling Joseph, his fi fth. Pitcher Sean Hjelle then walked Troy Dixon, and Tan- ner Gardner hit his second homer, also to right center. Hjelle seemed to settle down, striking out the next batter. A single by Hasuan Viera followed, but Hjelle struck out the next two batters. He retired the fi rst two Indians in the second inning, but Joseph then singled to right. Manager Hector Borg then replaced him with Greg Jack- newitz, who stayed on the mound until walking a batter after retiring two in the sev- enth. Spokane scored two more times in the third. Francisco Ventura led off with a home run to left, his third. An out followed, but Austin O’Banion hit an infi eld single despite a diving stop by third baseman David Villar, and the next two men walked. An infi eld single by Tyler Depreta-Johnson scored O’Banion. Volcano bats came alive in the fourth. Mikey Edie be- came the fi rst Salem-Keizer baserunner, reaching fi rst base on an error by third base- man Christian Inoa. Kevin McPherson fl ew out, but singles to left by Joey Bart and Villar loaded the bases. Wander Franco then cleared the bases with a double to left. Dalton Combs singled to center, scoring Franco. In the middle of the inning, Spokane still led but only 5-4. In the Volcano fi fth, Chris Burks doubled to center and went to third as Edie ground- ed out. Kyle McPherson singled to center, driving in Burks. Wer- ner Leal relieved starter Jake Latz at the start of the Salem- Keizer fi fth. Spokane went back ahead in the sixth.
