PAGE B6, KEIZERTIMES, MAY 11, 2018 GOLF, continued from Page B6 KEIZERTIMES/Derek Wiley McNary senior Noah Grunberg advanced to fi nals in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles on Tuesday at the Greater Valley Conference Championships at West Salem High School. TRACK, continued from Page B6 “I’m really excited going into it. Obviously, I’m ner- vous and kind of tense but honestly, I’m just happy to be there and I’ll do my best.” The district runner-up fi nish comes after Downer took last track season off to play AAU basketball. “That’s all on her as an athlete and her pure ath- leticism,” Walker said. “It is a technical sport and for her to take a year off and come back and just grab a pole and leave where she led off her sopho- more year, it’s just a testament to how athletic she is and her drive as an athlete to work and improve.” Downer is the fi rst Mc- Nary pole vaulter to qualify for state since 2013 when Danielle Lovejoy and Jake Herndon competed in Eu- gene. At 10-6, Downer is tied for second with Lovejoy in the McNary record books. “She’s such a great kid and she has such a great work ethic, not only on the track but in the weight room and at school and to be able to see her after she took her junior year off and come back out for track and have the success she had, it’s fun,” Walker said. “That’s what coaching is all about, is watching kids suc- ceed and it’s fun to be part of that.” McNary senior Haley Debban had cleared 9-6 ear- lier this season but wasn’t able to compete in the district meet after re-aggravating a knee injury during warmups. Also competing Tuesday, Tim Kiser fi nished fourth in the discus with a throw of 132 feet and Isabella Walker placed fourth in the high jump at 4-10. Ella Repp took eighth in the 3000-meter run in 11:33.26. Running in prelims, 11 athletes made it to fi nals in at least one event. Leah Doutt qualifi ed in both the girls 100 (fourth, 12.73) and 200 (fi fth, 26.83). Lucas Garvey advanced in the boys 200 (eighth, 23:94) and 400 (sixth, 52.73). Noah Grunberg qualifi ed in the 110 (seventh, 16:59) and 300 hurdles (seventh, 42.36). Casey Toavs advanced in the 300 hurdles (eighth, 42.64). Samples (seventh, 17.20) and Caitlyn Kiefi uk Yates (eighth, 17.23) quali- fi ed in the 110 hurdles while Walker (seventh, 49.76) and Hannah Mallery (sixth, 50.99). Reyna Terrazas advanced to fi nals in the girls 400 dash, fi nishing eighth in prelims in 1:04.20. Brian Hernandez took seventh in the boys 200 in 23.94 to reach fi nals. Kailey Doutt had the fast- est time in prelims in the girls 800, fi nishing in 2:23.85. Dutcher shot 148 over two days at Trysting Tree to fi nish second in the GVC. His 71 in round one was a personal best. “I stopped keeping score,” Dutcher said. “I didn’t know my score the whole round un- til I got to the last hole. I had the most relaxed mindset. Just the entire tournament, I just relaxed and had a good time.” Dutcher wants to take the same mindset to the state tournament. “I want to play the same game,” he said. “I want to lose my score. I don’t want to know what I’m shooting. If I could forget my score and not know it on the second day, I would do that.” Langenwalter also shot a new personal best, 72, in round one and back it up with a 78 to fi nish third at districts. “I hit the ball really well the fi rst day,” Langenwalter said. “My whole game was pretty solid and I didn’t really make any big mistakes.” The boys state tournament is May 14-15 at Emerald Valley. “I feel good about my game,” Langenwalter said. “My goal is to get in the top 10, which would be a pretty high fi nish in a tournament like that. I need to have some good rounds to do so but I defi nitely feel like I can do it. I’m look- ing forward to it. It’s going to be fun.” ATHLETE of the Week presented by Juralee Stover McNary High School junior McNary golfer Juralee Stover made a 10-foot put for par on the fi rst playoff hole to break a three-way tie at regionals on Monday, May 7 to qualify for the OSAA 6A Girls Golf State Championships. Playing at Tokatee Golf Club, Stover shot a 94 through 18 holes before making the put. KEIZERTIMES/Derek Wiley McNary senior Hannah Elliott, who will play in the state tour- nament May 14-15 at Trysting Tree, tees off at McNary Golf Club earlier this season.
