Lady Celts take
4th in SAY match
McNary’s girls golf team
opened the 2018 season by
fi nishing fourth at a Salem
Area Youth golf association
tournament on Monday,
March 12 at Santiam Golf
Club in Aumsville.
Juralee Stover shot 109 to
lead the Lady Celts and fi nish
10th overall.
Alexandria Ronning card-
ed a 110 and Hannah Elliot
shot 112.
Katy Wyatt and Emma John
both shot 118 for McNary.
Sprague won the tourna-
ment with a score of 372.
Blanchet/Salem Academy
took second with 426. Taft
shot 441 for third and Mc-
Nary fi nished fourth with
449.
The Lady Celts fi nished
ahead of both West Salem and
South Salem.
McNary is coached by
Brad Lomax, who is in his
fourth year at the school as a
business teacher and assistant
football coach.
The Lady Celts will com-
pete in fi ve league matches
this season before the district
tournament on April 30 at
Trysting Tree Golf Club in
Corvallis.

McNary seniors Jessica Grimmer and
Katelyn Martinez each scored four goals
as the Lady Celts lacrosse team defeated
Thurston 11-7 on Tuesday, March 13 to
open the regular season.

The infl ux of talent has
brought more competition.
“We go into every year
just saying it’s a competi-
tion and you’ve got to work
hard to earn your spot,” Wise
said. “We just leave the door
open. If a younger kid comes
in and takes your spot, that’s
what it is. I think it helps be-
cause the girls want to com-
pete and they want to work
hard and they want to drive
each other and have success
on and off the fi eld.
“The only things we know
for sure are Faith pitching
and Courtney catching. Hal-
ey Ebner is probably going to
be at fi rst again and Nadia at
center. But other than that,
you’ve got to compete.”
The Lady Celts will fi nd
out how good they are early
when the team that knocked
them out in the state quar-
terfi nals last season, Oregon
City and All-State pitcher
Morgan Hornback, come to
McNary on March 23.
“I felt like if we would
have played them 10 times,
we probably would’ve beat
them eight of 10 times, but
it just wasn’t our day,” Wise
said.
