PAGE B4, KEIZERCIMES, FEBRUARY 2, 2018 McNary swimmers win fi nal dual meet By DEREK WILEY Of the Keizertimes SALEM—Before McNary senior Grant Biondi’s fi nal high school meet at the Kroc Center, head coach Casey Lewin asked him to pick two events he didn’t normally swim. Biondi chose the 200-yard individual medley and 100 butterfl y. That decision paid off as Biondi won the 200 IM in 2:24.75 and 100 fl y in 1:06.70 on Tuesday, Jan. 30 against North Salem. Biondi, who hadn’t swam the 200 IM since he was a sophomore, set a personal re- cord in the event by nearly fi ve seconds. “It was kind of emotional because this is my last meet,” Biondi said. “It was fun to cheer on all my best friends.” Biondi was also motivated to make sure he had a spot on the Celtics district relay teams. “Our coach made us swim hard this meet because there are a bunch of guys who are like tenths of a second apart,” Biondi said. “For our relays, we have to swim out fastest.” Biondi, Wyatt Sherwood, Jabez Rhoades and Harrison Vaughn won the 200 free re- lay in 1:40.14. Biondi, Collin Wentworth, Jack O’Connor and Kyle Hooper won the 400 free relay in 3:50.50 Vaughn, Rhoades, Sher- wood and Brock Wyer took presented by NICOLETTE PARRA McNary High School wrestler McNary sophomore Nicolette Parra fi nished second at the girls wrestling state qualifi er at Churston High School on Jan. 26-27.
