PAGE A6, KEIZERTIMES, NOVEMBER 17, 2017 police scanner Good samaritan pressed into criminal act An unidentifi ed good sa- maritan learned the hard way that no good deed goes un- punished on Saturday, Nov. 12. Keizer police are now looking for him after pushing a wom- an to the ground and taking her phone. About 4:45 a.m., Offi - cer Rodney Bamford, of the Keizer Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of Lockhaven Drive North- east and Verda Lane Northeast on a report of an assault and robbery. After checking the area for a suspect matching the de- scription of a black man, 25- 30 years old, approximately 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-4, weigh- ing about 130 pounds and wearing a black coat and red pants, he talked with the vic- tim and learned the following: The victim, a 24-year- old female, went to Tequila Nights with a friend earlier in the evening and left on foot because her friend be- came too intoxicated to drive home. While she was walking on River Road North near Weeks Drive, a black male crossed the street and asked if she was okay before offering to walk her home. Once they arrived at the victim’s house, she invited the man in and offered him some- thing to eat and drink in re- turn for his kindness. The pair watched television for a while and then the victim went to check on her little sister who was staying the night. When she returned, the suspect said he’d better get go- ing and she agreed. The suspect left the apart- ment and the victim went to retrieve her wallet from her coat. The victim told Bam- ford the wallet was in her coat when she got home and there was no way it could have fall- en out. The woman grabbed her cell phone and dialed 9-1-1, but did not hit the call but- ton. Instead, she ran out to the parking lot and caught up with the suspect at Lockhaven Drive. She demanded her wal- let back twice and showed the suspect her phone with 9-1-1 on the screen. At that point the woman alleges the suspect pushed her down where she scraped her knee, grabbed her phone and fl ed on foot. The vic- tim claimed she pursued the man east on Lockhaven Drive, south on Verda Lane to Larchwood Avenue and then gave up the chase as the man turned on Arcade Avenue. The phone was valued at $600. When Bamford contact- ed the victim the next day to follow up on the incident, the victim said she had found her wallet under a long curtain inside her apartment, and that nothing was missing from it.
