Law enforcement offi cials
are on the hunt for bank
robbers who hit the MAPS
Credit Union branch in
Keizer Wednesday, Feb. 15.
The suspect who entered
the credit union is believed
to be a female with a dark
complexion, in her 20s to 30s
with black hair. The suspect
was wearing a pair of dark
rimmed glasses, a black cap,
a light colored jacket, zebra-
striped leggings, gray socks,
black shoes and a gray pair of
gloves.
She’s is believed to have
fl ed the scene in a waiting
newer model black or dark-
colored Ford Fiesta.
About 4:45 p.m., the sus-
pect entered the credit union,
located at 111 McNary Es-
tates Drive North. Respond-
ing offi cers learned the sus-
pect approached a teller
inside the credit union and
demanded money. The sus-
pect was given an undisclosed
amount of cash and fl ed from
the business in a vehicle that
was being operated by an ac-
complice to the robbery.
Special Agents from the
Salem offi ce of the Federal
Bureau of Investigation also
responded to the credit union
to investigate the incident.

Clean up at Civic Center March 18
The City of Keizer is
looking for more than 100
volunteers to pitch in on a
clean-up effort at Keizer Civ-
ic Center Saturday, March 18.
Volunteers are needed for
trimming bushes and grasses,
removing and potting shrubs
for replanting, removing
weeds, and dumping the col-
lected trimmings and leaves
into a drop box. The clean-
up is scheduled from 9 a.m.
to noon.

show up the day of the clean-
up without registering in ad-
vance.
Volunteers with the fol-
lowing items are asked to
bring them if they can: wheel-
barrows, plastic trash cans,
rakes, brooms, tarps (to drag
loads to the dumpster), prun-
ers, shovels and weed pullers.
Those interested in volun-
teering should dress for the
weather in long pants, sturdy
shoes/boots, gloves, hats and
coat. Restrooms will be avail-
able onsite and light refresh-
ments will be provided.
The clean-up is spon-
sored by the City of Keizer
and Lakepoint Community
Church, hosted by Keizer
Rotary and coordinated by
the Claggett Creek Water-
shed Council.
Bark dust and installation
is being donated by Highway
Fuel. Collection box and dis-
posal are being donated by
Loren’s Sanitation.

Marion-Polk Food Share will host the seventh an-
nual Seed Exchange on Saturday, Mar. 4, from 10 a.m.
to noon. The exchange will be hosted at the Marion-
Polk Food Share, 1660 Salem Industrial Drive N.E.
The Seed Exchange is an opportunity for home gar-
deners to bring seeds to share and take home free seeds.
The goal of the event is to distribute seeds so that local
families can grow their own healthy, nutritious food.

‘If I were mayor’ contest launches
The Oregon Mayor’s Asso-
ciation is sponsoring “If I were
Mayor, I Would....” Student
Contest.
The contest will start out
local for students from 4th
grade through 12th grade. The
winners in each category will
be awarded a $50 gift card and
invited to the May 15 City
Council meeting.
There are three categories
for the students to enter:
• The poster contest is
for students enrolled in 4th
through 5th grades, or for stu-
dents being home-schooled at
the same grade level for the
2016-2017 school year.
• The essay contest is for stu-
dents enrolled in 6th through
8th grades, or for students
being home-schooled at the
same grade level for the 2016-
2017 school year.
• The digital media pre-
sentation (video, PowerPoint,
Prezi, etc.) is for students en-

• The Keizer Points of In-
terest Committee identifi es,
authenticates, and memori-
alizes sites of interest located
in the Keizer area. Sites to
be identifi ed may be of the
historical, geographical, bo-
tanical, or unusual nature.
The Committee meets on
the fourth Thursday of each
month at 5:30 p.m.
• The Mid-Willamette
Valley Community Devel-
opment Partnership iden-
tifi es regional community
development priorities and
facilitates regional, intergov-
ernmental coordination of
development initiatives. They
may develop and approve
regional development plans;
oversee the implementation
of development grant pro-
grams such as those funded
by the US Economic De-
velopment Administration;
advocate for regional devel-
opment priorities; and pro-
vide formal, public forums
for communicating regional
concerns and priorities to
state and federal agencies.
The board meets once a year
at the Council of Govern-
ments building in downtown
Salem.
• The Festival Advisory
Board serves as an advisory
role to the City of Keizer
by researching feasibility for
developing venues for events
and festivals, streamlining
policies and ordinances for
potential events, developing
an all inclusive community
calendar, and developing a
marketing plan to enhance
the use of Keizer area facili-
ties for events, festivals, and
conferences. The Committee
meets on the fourth Monday
of each month at 6 p.m.

Robert Behling, 76, of Keizer is
recovering after numerous inju-
ries after the tractor he started
jumped into gear and dragged
him across an empty lot. Beh-
ling was caught in the bucket
and front tires of the tractor and
was freed when it crashed into
his van.
