ABOVE and BELOW: A crew from Wiltse’s Towing had to hook a Honda Civic three times before
it was fi nally able to pull the car out of the Willamette River Wednesday, Dec. 28.
CAR,
continued from Page A1
The vehicle belonged to
Gonzalez’s parents and it took
him until the next day to fess
up to what had happened,
Kuhns said.
By the time towing crews
arrived a week later, the roof of
the car was barely visible under
the surface of the water.
The car slipped back into
the water twice before it was
fi nally pulled from the river.

Lemonade
Day slated
for May 20
Keizer-Salem’s 2017 Lem-
onade Day has been set for Sat-
urday, May 20.
The one-day event, organ-
zied by the Salem-Keizer Edu-
cation Foundation, is a region-
wide activity that teaches kids
about entreneurship by creat-
ing, developing and running
their own lemonade stand. Kids
can choose to do a stand indi-
vidually or as part of a team.
Last year there were almost
200 stands dotting the Keizer-
Salem area.
As designed, proceeds from
a lemonade stand are divided
equally between an education
fund, donation to a charity and
spending money.
SKEF will release more in-
formation in March.
