SEPTEMBER 16, 2016, KEIZERTIMES, PAGE A5 KeizerCommunity Keizer remembers 15 years later KEIZERTIMES.COM By DEREK WILEY Of the Keizertimes Keizer Fire District gathered with the community Sunday morning to honor and remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001. On the 15th observance year, KFD held its reverent and respectful memorial of those who were lost on 9-11, those who have sacrifi ced since, and those who still serve today. Anne-Marie Storms, Public Education Specialist, for Keizer Fire District, led off the observance with the posting of the colors by Keizer Police Honor Guard, Sergeant Greg Barber and Offi cer Tyler Wampler. The Star Spangled Banner was sung in three part harmony by McNary High School seniors Emma Blanco, Ashton Thomas and Madi Zuro. While the placement of A the memorial wreath was set at the monument dedicated to 9-11, by KFD Board President Joe Van Meter and Keizer Mayor Cathy Clark, Pastor Tom Fox gave an invocation. Oregon State Fire Marshal Jim Walker offered the thoughts of those who continue to serve and Keizer Fire Chief Jeff Cowan shared refl ections of the past which have come to light in observance of this sacred day. After a moment of silence, Doug Kroll, of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, played, Taps on his bugle in the somber morning sunrise ceremony.
