After winning the Greater Valley Conference in 2014 and starting the 2015 campaign 5-0, injuries crushed the Celtics chances of repeating. With seven players missing time with injuries, some season ending, MHS went 2-5-3 in its fi nal 10 contests including a 5-4 loss to Tigard in a playoff play-in game to end the year. “We had to bring up a lot of young players that didn't have much experience so they were't really used to the high level of competition and how fast pace the game was,” senior captain Bryant Keo said. “Now they're prepared and know what's coming for them.” Playing in the GVC was also tough as McMinnville and West Salem both reached the semifi nals of the state playoffs with the latter falling in the state championship game. With Keo returning at center midfi elder as well as Gustavo Villalvazo, a senior defender who blew his knee out early last season, Celtics head coach Miguel Camarena expects MHS to rebound in 2016. “Like always, our expectations are high,” Camerena said. “Our boys program has been in the top 10 for years. We expect the same thing. No. 1, go to state, No. 2, win the conference and No. 3, send some guys to college. That's the plan. I need my guys healthy. We have a lot of young guys this year, who are pretty good players. We need to work quickly for them to understand the concepts.” With the graduation of midfi elder Paulo Reyes, who had a hat trick versus Tigard Jose Abundiz, 12 Jesus Lopez, 10 Bryan Keo, 12 Sebastian Brunk, 9 Alex Pineda, 12 Jose Zamudio, 10 Gustavo Villalvazo, 12 ATTENTION TEEN DRIVERS: Come in and receive a FREE LIGHT CHECK & BULB REPLACEMENT Jackson’s Body Shop, Inc. is a 3rd generation family owned collision repair business.
