Here’s a recap: Aug. 10: Eugene 12, Volcanoes 4 The visiting Emeralds clinched a series win, scoring four runs in the fourth inning and crossing the plate in four more innings. Salem-Keizer was outhit only 15-10 but made three er- rors The biggest Volcano blows were Gio Brusa’s sixth home run and the fi fth home runs of Bryan Reynolds and Heath Quinn. Reynolds had three hits. Eugene’s Kevonte Mitch- ell and Trent Giambrone also homered. All fi ve shots came with the bases empty. Tyson Miller was the win- ning pitcher in relief, with a 1-1 record. Volcano starter Mac Marshall gave up six runs, only two earned, in his 3-2/3 in- nings. He was the losing pitcher at 1-5. Aug. 11: Eugene 7, Volcanoes 4 Another four-run Eugene inning, this time the sixth, gave the Emeralds a series sweep de- spite improved play by the Vol- canoes. Garrett Williams, one of Salem-Keizer’s newest pitchers, started and pitched well enough to win, striking out seven and allowing four hits and one walk in his fi ve innings. However, pitch counts are watched care- fully for newcomers. Duncan Robinson was Eu- gene’s winning pitcher in relief with a 2-0 record, and Michael Knighton had his fourth save. The Emeralds hit all three home runs of the game, by Marcus Mastrobuoni, Chris Pi- eters, and Kevonte Mitchell. For the Volcanoes, Heath Quinn and Gustavo Cabrera had three hits each. Aug. 12: Everett 7, Volcanoes 2 Salem-Keizer’s losing streak continued with this series- opening road loss, of which the only bright spots were Gio Bru- sa’s seventh home run and the relief pitching of CJ Gettman and Patrick Ruotolo. The AquaSox scored twice in the second inning and never lost their lead. They outhit the Volcanoes 10-4, and starter Ljay Newsome pitched 6-2/3 in- nings with six strikeouts on his way to a 5-2 record. Aug. 14: Everett 6, Volcanoes 5 A 5-4 Salem-Keizer lead af- ter 8-1/2 innings was answered by two AquaSox runs in the bottom of the ninth. Each club had 12 hits, but Everett hit the ball harder, in- cluding a sixth-inning home run by Dimas Ojeda. Matt Pope had his fi rst save. The Volcanoes scored a run each in the fi rst, third, and sixth innings and scored four times in the ninth. Everyone in the line- up had at least one hit. Manuel Geraldo and Kevin Rivera con- tinued their hot hitting with two apiece. Bryan Reynolds drove in four runs. Steve Cishek, the fi rst of four AquaSox pitchers, left the game after one inning and took the loss at 0-1. Aug. 16: Everett 6, Volcanoes 1 Everett resumed its mastery over Salem-Keizer, outhitting the Volcanoes 10-3 and knock- ing starter Mac Marshall out of the box after two-thirds of an inning. Marshall’s record went to 1-6. AquaSox starter Tim Vie- hoff yielded no hits to the Volcanoes but walked four and was replaced on the mound by Danny Garcia after four innings. Garcia got the win at 4-1. The lone Volcano run came in the fi rst inning. Manuel Geraldo led off with a walk, advanced on walks to Heath Quinn and Ryan Howard, and was forced home when John Riley walked. trouble. Jose Leal reached fi rst base on a one-out error, advanced on singles by Nick Thurman and Eric Filia, and scored as Brigman grounded into a force out. In the top of the eighth, Geraldo bunted a single, Reynolds singled to right, and both advanced on a passed ball. Quinn singled to right, driving in Geraldo. Brusa was hit by a pitch, Thomas Burrows took the mound, and Howard scored Reynolds by grounding into a force out. Jeff Burke pitched the eighth and ninth for the Vol- canoes, allowing three hits but no runs. Melo (4-1) was the win- ning pitcher.
