JULY 22, 2016, KEIZERTIMES, PAGE A7 LOVE, continued from Page A1 looked right. I woke up at 3 a.m. thinking maybe I should just do another sketch of him before coming back out to paint. Then I got here and looked at it again, and thought maybe it isn't so bad,” she said. Like any artistic endeavor, it's a process fi lled with highs and lows and intense moments of self-doubt, but she keeps on painting. “One of the problems is I do portraits in watercolor and I don't know what the hell I'm doing with the acrylics we have for the mural,” she said. On top of that, she's started “correcting” spots of the portrait that didn't fi t with her father's style. “When I started, they had him with long sleeves and he hated long sleeves. So now he's in a bowling shirt and I'm going to put his 300-game ring on his fi nger and a can in his hand,” Nancy said. She spent much of her early life in bowling alleys. Before purchasing Town & Country in 1967, Tony built Kids: Leave your mark on Iris Parade mural KEIZERTIMES/Eric A. Howald Olivia Bellin, 8, assists at the Keizer Mural Project Friday, July 15. and operated a bowling alley in Silverton. While much of her family remains avid bowlers, Nancy spent her time at the alley reading and drawing. “They used to keep scores on paper and I would end up with a handful of scoresheets that I would fl ip over and draw on the back,” Nancy said. “I started drawing bowlers.” While in college at Willamette University, Nancy would return to Town & By ERIC A. HOWALD Of the Keizertimes On July 23 and 25, organizers of Keizer’s mural project at Town & Coun- try Lanes are hoping area children turn out to leave their mark. On those dates, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., kids up to 13 years old (includ- ing newborns) are invited to leave their handprints on the base of the mural lo- cated at Town & Country Lanes, 3500 River Road N. Parents will need to ac- company children hoping to participate and permission form will need to be completed before painting. Jill Hagen, the project manager, said things are coming along nicely, but there’s still much work to be done. “We need a lot of volunteer paint- ers,” Hagen said. “While we are starting Country to complete her homework. Nancy said her father taught the current owner Don Lebold how to bowl before the two became partners in the business years later. She is one of the few to work on the portraits, there are still buildings and shadowing to complete, and those are paint-by-numbers to a large degree.” Hagen is looking for help in tracking down sprayers to apply an anti-grafi tti coat sometime in August. Spraying equipment and people to operate it are both needed. The protective coating is already secured. Hagen is also hoping to drum up new lighting fi xtures to enhance the look of the mural at nighttime. “We already have some exterior lighting on the building, but we would like new fi xtures. If someone is willing to donate the fi xtures and installation, Don Lebold (owner of Town & Coun- try) has agreed to keep them lit,” Hagen said. people who still calls Lebold “Donnie.” When she wants changes to the mural, she calls it playing the Donnie Card. Even though she lives in Springfi eld now, her ties to Keizer remain strong. She's still a member of the Keizer Art Association and comes to town at least once a week to take her brother bowling. “My connection with the city is just continual,” Nancy said. “And this is a really great way to cement it.” Business&Services FOOT & ANKLE CARE Your Feet Are My Specialty Dean McNabb, DPM ABPS BOARD CERTIFIED Sports Medicine Foot Surgery Heel Pain Fractures Ingrown Nails Neuromas Warts & Orthotics Nail Fungus Hammertoes Diabetic Foot Care Bunions FUNERAL HOME LAWN SERVICES We are Everything Except Overpriced COMPLETE LAWN & GARDEN CARE Yard cleanups, mowing, pruning, bark dusting, and more!
