JUNE 17, 2016, KEIZERTIMES, PAGE A5 KeizerCommunity KEIZERTIMES.COM McNary presents Class of 2016 By DEREK WILEY Of the Keizertimes Kacey McCallister and Ser- ena Dufour challenged Mc- Nary’s Class of 2016 to try new things because failure is inevitable. “What good is life if you never try to do something re- markable?” asked McCallister, a 2004 graduate who deliv- ered the keynote speech. “Get out there and be successful.” McCallister used his own examples of failing in cross country and wrestling at Mc- Nary before learning from his mistakes and winning district titles in both sports. “Congratulations on the completion of a journey,” said Dufour, who was one of two student speakers. “One chap- ter closes and the next one opens and whether you are an attorney or the one that bags my groceries, my one wish for you is to enjoy life, to fail and mess up and try again, so that when another opportunity knocks, you open the door. Try things you’ve never tried before.” Dufour added that the mis- takes and accomplishments made in high school do not defi ne who one will become. We are still the future gen- eration,” she said. “We are still young. We will grow and change and expand and expe- rience failure and success.” The other senior speaker, Malcolm Salazar, compared high school to a movie and graduation marked the end- ing. “This day is the begin- ning of our ending,” he said. “Because of this many of us are worried about our next movie—the future, what col- lege we will go to, what ca- reer we will pursue, or what person we wish to become in the future. And it is reasonable and wise to ponder on these A C Simple Cremation $795 D A: Anchor Victor Arista-Medina celebrates receving his diploma. But we must be careful not to fall into the trap of ‘in the future I will’ or ‘someday I will.’ Starting now we have to begin shaping and molding our personality, who we will be or how we will be known, because the person we are right now is going to make us the person we wish to be in the future.” On behalf of the Class of 2016, Salazar thanked his teachers [production crew] We are Everything Except Overpriced B and family. “I want to thank moms, hi mom, I know you’re over there somewhere, dads, broth- ers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cous- ins, grandmas, grandpas, family friends or best friends, thank you,” Salazar said. “Thank you for your sup- port. Thank you for your en- couragement. Thank you for your motivation and most im- portantly, thank you for your love.” Ask Mr. Trash Inexpensive Burial and Funeral Options For more photos see page 11 Q: Do local garbage haulers remove large items and junk from basements, attics, and garages?
