Young entrepreneurs show off their wares at the Lemonade
Day kickoff in early March.
Ten booths manned by
local children were part of the
launch for Lemonade Day 2016
held at the Salem Convention
Center on March 10. The
operators of the booths were
conducting market research
for just the right recipe that
would sell on the yellow day
on Sunday, May 1 throughout
Keizer and Salem.
Lemonade Day, a national
organization, teaches grade-
and middle-school students
how to be an entrepreneur
by planning and managing
a lemonade stand alone or
with their friends. The fi rst
Lemonade Day was held here

people tasted and voted for the
best recipe.
This year’s Lemonade Day is
being organized by the Salem-
Keizer Education Foundation.
There are expected to be
hundreds of stands on that
day throughout the two cities.
Some of the kids are planning
to set up their booths at high
traffi c retail locations, others in
their neighborhood.
Participants agree to share
a third of their revenues with
a charity of their choice, save
a third for their education and
spend a third as mad money.
