MAYOR, continued from Page A2 Doing things collabora- tively isn’t just confi ned to within the seven square miles of Keizer. The GGNA meet- ing took place one day af- ter the initial meeting of the Mid-Willamette Homeless Initiative. Clark is one of fi ve Keizer representatives on the panel, which brings together representatives from Keizer, Salem, Marion County and Polk County. The fi rst meet- ing drew a standing room-on- ly crowd at the Salem Public Library. Because of the large crowd, Clark said future meet- ings – the next one is Tuesday, March 29 – will be at Keizer Civic Center. “Where are the gaps? What can we do? What is missing? We don’t know, because we still have homeless people,” Clark said. “They want to be in a place that is safe. There is some housing in our commu- nity that is not safe. That’s not okay. We heard from providers and heard about a continuum of care. There are programs that target populations in spe- cifi c situations. “Folks, we have work to Mayor Cathy Clark spoke at the Feb. 18 Greater Gubser Neighborhood Association meeting. KEIZERTIMES/ Craig Murphy do,” the mayor added. “My mind was doing wheelies. But it also gave me tremendous hope. If you have a commu- nity- or faith-based organi- zation, we will fi nd a way to get you involved and to net- work. We will bring in groups with the same goals. We can do more together. We have a whole bunch of wheels, let’s get them on the same wagon. But before the four jurisdic- tions leap in, we want to learn where we can make a differ- ence.” Rick Gaupo with Marion Polk Food Share noted his group asked the state for more homeless funding this year. “Hunger and housing are intricately related,” Gaupo said. “People will give up housing before they give up food. Hunger is our core issue, but we lobbied for money for housing.” Clark said that drove home her point. “That recognizes the level of care needed in the com- munity,” the mayor said. “This will be an important initiative in our communities.” Vote online for Whiteaker coach Longtime Whiteaker Middle School coach Scott Coburn has been named one of three fi nalists for the Comcast SportsNet All-Star Coach Program. The coach who is awarded the All-Star Coach title for Or- egon will receive $5,000 for the school where he/she coaches. Voting has begun online at www.csnnw.com. The fi nal award presentation will take place at the Portland Trail Blazers game on April 2. Business&Services APPLIANCES AUTO SERVICE ATTORNEY Come See Our New Showroom Brakes! Tires! Batteries!
