PAGE A14, KEIZERTIMES, FEBRUARY 5, 2016 MAT, continued from Page A12 Freshman Ricky Vincent said the entire team would need to keep their focus on the wrestlers on the mat. “We have to stay supportive through every single match. That’s what gets me through when I’m tired, and we need to do it for everybody,” Vin- cent said. McNary had a barnburner of a dual meet with North Salem High School Thursday, Jan. 28. “I could see it going either way by about three points be- cause North Salem always puts a tough team on the mat and we’re one of the programs they set their sights on,” Ebbs said. With enthusiatic crowds supporting both teams at the Salem school, McNary won the contest 37-30. But a num- ber of close and/or lengthy matches kept the outcome in question until late in the eve- ning. Bonn won his match, at 220 pounds, by pin. “I took some good shots, but I had trouble getting my head up and broadening my chest to keep the guy down like I should have,” Bonn said. Vincent outlasted his oppo- nent in a tough match-up to win 8-4. “I didn’t get switched on my back very often and, when I did, I was able to switch out of it pretty quickly,” Vincent said. Other Celtic winners were: Brayden Ebbs in a 6-5 deci- sion (the match was decided by a point awarded for stall- ing); Wyatt Kesler in a 17-4 major decision; Carlos Vincent by pin; Blake Gerstner in a 10-8 decision; Jesse Gomez by pin; and Keifer Smith by pin. Overall, Bonn was happy with the Celtics’ performance under pressure. “I felt like we responded well. Once we realized what we were up against, we took initiative and did what we needed to do,” said Bonn. births • Jett Danger Johnston was born January 20, 2016 at Salem Hospital.
