Keizer Police are looking for suspects in a trio of bur- glaries at River Road busi- nesses on Wednesday, July 26. Two cash registers were stolen from Plaza Morelia, 3391 River Road N. Entry was made by smashing the glass front door to the busi- ness. At Amiga Salon, 3453 Riv- er Road N., a small amount of cash, hair products and a debit card machine were taken. A broken window was the point of entry. Next door to Amiga, CK Nails and Spa, 3443 River Road N., was also broken into. While nothing was reported stolen, it appeared as though the suspect attempted to steal a television mounted to a wall. Again, a window was broken to gain entry. The latter two burglaries were discovered when police received a report of a suspi- cious person and vehicle at the Shell gas station at the south end of Keizer. DRIVER ESCAPES AFTER PURSUIT ENDS IN CRASH A driver escaped on foot after leading police on a chase in a stolen vehicle in south Keizer on Saturday, July 29. A passenger who also tried to fl ee the scene was caught and cited. About 2 p.m., Offi cer David Babcock was monitoring traf- fi c in the 100 block of Appleb- lossom Drive North when he observed a stolen 1995 Honda Accord four-door drive past him westbound on Appleblos- som Drive. Offi cer Babcock attempted to catch up to the stolen ve- hicle as it continued traveling westbound on Appleblossom Drive North, but it became apparent the driver was at- tempting to elude him. Babcock saw the suspect vehicle turn right and trav- el through the Laurel Gate Apartments toward River Road North. He took a paral- lel path but the fl eeing car nev- er appeared. When he reached River Road and looked to the south for the suspect vehicle he saw it had crashed into an- other vehicle when the suspect pulled out of the Laurel Gate Apartments onto River Road. The Honda crashed into the side of a 1973 Chevrolet pick-up that was occupied by two individuals. After crashing, the driver of the stolen vehicle and a passenger fl ed from the scene of the traffi c crash on foot. Both the driver and the passenger fl ed east across River Road where the driver hopped a fence into the Budget-Rent- A-Space and U-Haul com- plex. The passenger was de- tained by one of the occupants of the Chevrolet pick-up. The man had given chase on foot ultimately caught up with the passenger and detained him until offi cers arrived and took him into custody. The passenger who fl ed from the stolen vehicle was identifi ed as Alexander Ahmed Elsherbini, a 20-year-old who gave a Salem address. He was cited for conspiracy to commit unauthorized use of a vehicle and released at the scene. The driver remains at large.
