Entered as second-class matter March 29, 1915, at the post-office at SUyton, Ore., under the Act of March 3, ic79. Circuit Judge—Elisha P. Mor- com, of Woodburn. is the only Marion County candidate for Circuit Judge outside o f Salem. — Paid advertisement. Max ^ Gehlhar, candinate for District Attorney, was looking .aftef his political interests here Saturday. He has made an ex cellent county cleric and ht? friends predict he will make an equally efficient district attorney if elected. There’s- the rub. There are three or four others in the race who are considered ful ly as competent and who have lots of friends. Let the best man win. Jefferson Review.—W.l. Need ham will run strong for sheriff in this end of the county. He was raised here and is well liked by all. His competent work as deputy and ever courteous treat ment of patrons o f th§ office have made him hosts of strong friends in all sections. His fitness for the position is beyond question. His faith ful work in the. past en titles him to .the reward he will undoubtedly receive at the hands of the voters next Friday. Edward H. Belknap, of Jeffer son, a candidate for representa tive on the*-Republican ticket, was a caller Friday. He is a - farmer in Sidney precinct and stands for the strictest economy consistent with efficient adminis tration of county and State gov ernment. He was twice elected represertative.frum Benton coun- . ty some years ago, ar>i m i le a good record. If experience and ability are considered. Mr. knap should he elected, number on the- ballot is 51. Ivan G. Martin. candidafe for representative on the Republican ticket, was a caller yesterday. • Mr. Martin believes, as we do, ’ that he will secure the nomina tion for the office. He is in ev ery way capable, and is familiar with the work of the legislature through acting as a newspaper reporter in years past. He may be depended upon to give good service to the’ people. We all know we have too many laws, too many commissions, and too high taxes. While a single leg islator cannoc do all that he would like to, if he “ knows the ropes" and is willing, he can save the people may dollars in taxes. With his experience and ability Martin is the man for the job. He ha’s ■the support of some o f the county’s best farm ers an$ business men. and we be- believe no one will make a mis- in voting 58 x Ivan G. Martin. As It Looks To-day As we are not a prophet nor the son of a prophet, we cannot tell who will be nominated at the primaries, but indications are very favorable for a number of candidates. v For Secretary of State there ♦ l^ems to be little doubt of the Success of Charles B. Moores. Many o f his party members are not satisfied as to Olcott’s Re publicanism and will support his opponent on that score alone. For Circuit Judge Percy R. Kelly. o f Albany, the present in cumbent, and George G. Bing ham. o f Salem, are most likely to be chosen. Judge Kelly has served the people faithfully and well during his term of office, and is entitled to re-election. Mr. Bingham has all the requisites for an excellent official.
