Ore. _____ The Benefit Dance given b.\ the Stayton ladies was a decided success, and all w ho attended enjoved themselves immensly. The Trotter building had been tastily decorated lor the occasion with flags, greens and bunting and about the room were booths. where the dancers couid retresh themselves with cake, punch, sandwiches, coffee, etc. Stayton people ali donated gen- erously and in consequence the expenses were light, the biggest expense being the music w hich was $18.00. The ladies cleared $119.40 which they deposited in the bank and which will be used to buy yarn, Other expenses were $4.65. Mr. Archer had only recently purchased a bunch of registered Holstein cattle but he was fortu nate in that all o f the live stock was gotten out of the barn be fore they were burned. The cause of the fire was the explo sion of a lantern. The barn and contents were partly covered by insurance.
