Bulletin No. 2 Why We Are Opposing A Government Armor J^lant modern : IN IIT E D To the People: ST A T E Some people ¡«ay that the very fart that the Bethlehem Steel Company is so oppressively C R E A M fiphtinp the proposal to build n Government armor plant is ronrlusive proof that the Company is seekinp to assure for itself the "v a st profits” derived from private manufacture. The fact is that armor m a k in g is the le a s t profitable fea tu re • * of s t e e l m u i i u f a e t lire. * The reason we oppose a Government plant is very simple. It is this: * S E P A R A T O R W ith c o n s tr u c tio n to ta lly d iffer - f ”1 e n tfr o n i a n y o f th e m a n y " d i s c ” | ty p e m ultcs a n d as m u c h b e t ter as n ew er a n d d ifferen t. liaclt o f th e s e U. Even though there is but little profit in the making of armor, we have invested over $7,000,000 in our armor plant; That plant is useless for any other purpose; if a Government plant is built the useful ness of our plant is destroyed. It would be poo«I business for us to m ake armor for the C.ovrrn- ment at any price over and above the actual simp cost, BA I 111.U THAN SACRIFICE Ot'R ENTIRE INVESTMENT. We do not seek to save bip profits; our purpose is very frankly to save our tumor plant— itself built solely for the use of the Government— from going to the scrap heap.
