Feel that you have a personal interest in the welfare of your community and see to it that all matters of interest are sent in not later than Wednesday so that they reach The Mail office by Wednesday night to insure their appearance in the weeks issue. We want general news of interest to your friends not only here but elsewhere. What interests them stimulates the interest at home and a Marion county home is the best investment for surplus cash. Send in the news. It is not our desire to cope with the metropolitan press in giving to the public “ heavy” editorials, but it is our desire to meet every proposition of direct import to Stayton first, Marion county second and Beaver State third. Every community is known to a great many people, who judge the residents of that community according to their individual views. Let us hope to be able to merit the hearty approval of our citizens, their friends and as many as may read or hear of the Stayton Mail. We wish you to feel that you have a personal interest in your community be that where it may and if at any time you desire to become more closely allied with Stayton we will be glad to have as many residents as Portland. With the passing of the panic and the close of a presi dential campaign near at hand our city has gone steadily for ward and to those who live in great cities we say, do not strive for wealth where competition is so keen but come to the center of Marions business district where nothing has been overdone and where you can live an independent life provided you are a worker for the upbuilding of Stayton and vicinity. Our population is composed of enthusiastic citizens and if you wish to better your condition also help yourself to the best opportunity to secure a home in the best section of the Willamette valley we have the place for you in Stayton, Marion county, Oregon. It is gratifying to note the loyalty of our residents in coming to the assistance of any enterprise beneficial to our city and community. In the matter of raising the cash nec essary for the electric railroad, Stayton leads all sections or towns in Marion county, not even excepting the State Capital, which is reported to have raised $$o,ooo, but so far as we have been able to learn has not raised $3,000. With the population of Salem ten times greater than Stayton, they need not think we feel the least dismay, for Stayton without a railroad has more city pride, energy and personal vim than any other town in the Beaver State. She will have an electric road if she has to build it herself, for Stayton is alive and does not believe in going about any project in a half hearted way. Show For Stayton. Beginning last Thursday .Stayton now has a moving picture and illus trated song parlor two nights of each week. Delbert Mill recently purchased a fine Edison Moving Picture machine and has added a splendid phonograph which renders the song*, the slides for which are not excelled anywhere. Mr. Hill gave two very successful exhibitions here and on Tuesday and Wednesday of each week Stayton is to have a show of their own. Each step toward metropolitan conveniences our city, so lets keep stepping. The Stayton .Mail has changed hands. Mr. Fred O. Conley is the new proprietor. From a few moments conversation with him, last week, we concluded that he had the necessary push about him to make the Mail a juccegsful newspaper —Santiaiu News. Plant Enlarged. The Excelsior plant here is now- running with a small crew owing to the enlargement of the plant which was undertaken a short time ago. A larger turbine lias been installed, wood and dust conveyors are added to the former equipment, but even w ith the present crew the total of one hundred tons of excelsior are shipped to Port land and Han Francisco. With the new equipment finished the output will he doubled as well as the cost of production slightly re duced by eliminating the additional handling of the wood and dust which will be carried in the new conveyors. D. Kinnamon from Koseburg but residing in Chehalis pa-sed through town cn route Chelinlis. Me had driven over land thus far and will make the balance of bis journey in the same way. to him. It is a fact that this section of Marion county is unknown to the remainder of this state ns well as to eastern |>eople. We have all the re* quirements necessary for the success ful pursuit of any lino ot horticulture, agriculture, stock raising and dairying. We need more people to locate on smaller acreage than is now owned hy residents. The present owners, many ) of whom have raised wheat for over thirty years on the same ground, have diversified farming than by putting all their eggs iu one basket. Southeastern Marion county cannot be l>eat for diversified farming ami rarely excelled. All do well who come here and we have room for more. O H IT t’ A IIY. George M. Me had been sulFering for some time with abscess on the palm of his band, that appeared to have started from a cut received while putting up wire fence.
