collection June 12
Food donors should have
their reusable green bags
out by 9 a.m., June 12 for the
Redmond Food Project col-
lecton day.
Neighborhood coordina-
tors will collect full bags and
leave an empty bag for the
next collection day. For infor-
mation on a fun and easy way
to help fight hunger in the
Redmond Community, visit

ing a difference, one green
bag at a time.
Education notes
Geoff Von Allmen, of Red-
mond, received a master of
science degree in computer
science from the Georgia Insti-
tute of Technology in Atlanta.
Erin N. Cork, of Redmond,
was named to the spring 2021
dean’s list at Iowa State Uni-
versity in Ames, Iowa, a rec-
ognition that requires a GPA
of 3.5 or higher and a mini-
mum of 12 credit hours. Cork
is studying agronomy.
Zidane Galant-LaPorte,
Seeley Haas and Cassidy Nel-
son, all of Redmond, were
recognized with academic
distinction for the spring se-
mester at Whitman College
in Walla Walla, Washington.
The recognition requires a
GPA of 3.5 or higher and a
minimum of 9 credit hours.

seniors from Redmond high
schools have been awarded
scholarships by the Red-
mond Kiwanis Foundation:

Sorensen, Redmond Profi-
ciency Academy, $2,000.
The Community 101 pro-
gram at Redmond Profi-
ciency Academy awarded
$5,000 in grant funds to two
local nonprofits, Kindred
Connections and Friends of
the Children. The student-led
program works with Ore-
gon Community Foundation
and allows students to learn
about specific needs in their
geographic region and par-
ticipate in civic engagement.
Kindred Connections, a local
organization which provides
mentoring to families and
housing for children in crisis,
received $2,000. Friends of
the Children received $3,000.
Thelma’s Place reopening
Adult day care at Thelma’s
Place, a Redmond nonprofit
for memory loss individuals,
will reopen July 1.

Meet Ruca, a 6-year-old lab mix who was sur-
rendered to the shelter and is awaiting a new home.
Ruca is a large dog with very soft fur and a moderate
amount of energy. She is very anxious at the shelter
so she hopes to meet her adopter soon. She’s friendly
with people she knows but may be standoffish to
strangers at first. She does well on the leash and likes
to be petted. She’d do best as the only dog in the home
but may be ok with another large dog. For more info,
