had to be repaired by building a

Supt Wallace had a crew of

small head In order to puddle the
ditch around the upper end of the
flume. The order was misunderstood
and a full head turned In. The work
had to be done over again and was
finally finished Sunday. The lack of
water did considerable damage be­
cause o f the warm weather. Consid­
erable grain, which had not been Ir­
rigated. wa* fired by the heat, which
was 92 degrees on Sunday.
A party was given Tuesday even­
ing at the C. J. Mock home In honor
of Misa le'nora Mock, who la home
on a visit. The entertainment was
a series of "stunts” by the guests,
and everyone reported an enjoyable
time. Mias Mock wil leave In a short
time.
109 CARS OF BERRIES
The strawberry shipping season
has come to a close in the Hood R iv ­
er Valley and the records of the Ap­
ple Growers' Association show that
109 car loads have left Hood River
thla season, which Is the largest
number of cars that have ever been
shipped from that point. The berry
crop was of extra fine quality this
season and the crop wa* heavy. The
Hood River berry had a clear mar­
ket in the middle west states during
the season, which has insured a good
price.
Twelv e cars o f cherries were ship­
ped from Hood River thi* year which
Is also the largest tonnage of cher­
ries ever shipped out. One firm in
Chicago purchased six cars o f Hood
River fruit.
