Smith, the Republican caudidate for County Clerk, was for a number of years one of the popu lar educators of the county, havi ng retired from that vocation less than two years ago for the purpose of ac cepting a position in the general merchandise store of E. Rackliff, of Dairyville. Mr. Smith was given the nomination by the Republican Convention on account of his spec ial fitness for the position. Strictly temperate in every 'respect, moral, unassuming, gentlemanly at all times, not overburdened with the quality called “big head,” euergetio, and always willing to perforin to the best of his ability any duty justly required of him, he will if elected, strive to serve the whole county faithfully, honestly and honorably, and may be depended upon to make no distinction on ac count of personal feeling, politics or creed. Mr. Smith will carry his own precinct, and in fact all the Northern Curry precincts, and will be elected by a very large majority, —and no’one— not even the Demo crats—will regret his election after giving him a fair trial.
