IRONSIDE Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Nichols, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lawerence and family, Mrs. E. J. Beam and son Arthur and daughters Nellie and vivian all atended the Malheur County Fair at Ontario this year. Mr. I'rcston of Prairie City visited Mr. and Mrs. Fred Lawerence here this week, and attended the Fair. Rev. Snow of Payette has been holding services at Ironside school this week. B. Plummcr sold his homestead near Ironside this week to Mr. and Mrs. James Fallen of Nampa Idaho. Mr. Plummer t.-king an automobile in the deal. Chas. Bure returned Friday from Unity where ho had purchased load of grain. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Wisdom drove to Brogan Thursday, where they will remain during the fruit season. Miss Dollic Lawerence has gone to Monmouth where she will study this year. Mrs. Price nnd family and Mrs. Swaker nnd family of Bums are visiting their sister and family Mr. nnd Mrs. Herman Rose.for a few weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rose nnd fam ily left for Caldwell where they will visit with relatives for a few days. From Caldwell they will leave for Sacremento, stopping over in Baker to visit Mr. Rose's parent, Mr, and Mrs. Francis Rose. Miss Opal Rose will accompany them o Baker. W. R. Lifton and Earl Iifton, while riding for cattle came upon a huge black benr which, after chas ing it with dogs, they succeededd in treeing. The bear was then tied to a tree, nfer it was lnssooed, until one of the men located a gun and killed it. Mr. Chadwick of Baker City was ftn Ironside visitor Thursday. Bert B. Alliquist of Portland, re presenting the Blumenar Frank rug Co. of Portland was in town Thursday. Duve Lognn nnd Mr. Madden of Brogan were in this vicinity looking for beef cuttle, Friday. Eli Ro.sc and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Lawerence made a business trip to Vale this week. William Tureman passed through Ironside Friday on his way from Malheur to Brogan and Vale. Frank Collins of the Baker Mc Minnvillo Fire Insurance Co. was in this vicinity Friday. r MALHEUR H. M. Derrick made a business trip to Baker lajt week. , The Woodcock and Eddy threshing machine is broken down at the Phe lan place in Cow Valley. They have ordered repairs from Portland again soon. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kinder, county club leader and wife, were business visitors here from Vale one day last week, looking after the club work. Guy Wise, of Ironside, passed through here Sunday enroute to Bridgeport with a load of honey, Which he hopes to dispose of. Mrs. Mary Smith returned from Baker Wednesday. R. E. Woodcock made a business trip to the Rainbow mine Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Morfitt and Mrs. Alice Williams and son, Marve left Sunday for Brogan to pick fruit. W. S. Woodcock went to Eagle Valley last week to erect a dwelling houBe on his homestead. Miss Vada Morfitt is visiting with friends in Baker this week. E. wife of Ontario. Mr. Thipps, who had the misfor tune to have his home burn two weeks ago, is building a new one and expects to have it ready for occupancy in a short time. Several of the apple growers of the Slope started to pick apples the last few days. Mrs. Nattres and daughter Helen of Nebraska were guests at the C. G. Heslup and Walter Davis homes, for several days last week. A meeting of vegetable growers was held at the George Lattig ranch Monday afternoon. Mr. Megordon who farms part of the Lattig place, is an experienced vegetable grower. and has demonstrated beyond doubt that cabbage, caulifuower, tomatoes, and other crops can be successfully raised here without transplanting. His crops are worth traveling" far to see. The next place visited was the Johnson ranch where three different plantings of lettuce were viewed. The late planting showing a perfect stand and all heading in good shape. As the group of men traveled over the various fields, Walter Whitaker, field man for the California Vege table Union, gave short talks on the growing and marketing of various crops and replied to the many ques tions put to him by 'those present. Lowe last Wednesday charging him with having killed an antelope. Mr. Lowe came before the jusitce of the peace and plead guilty and was fined $200 and costs.
