MALHEUR ENTERPRISE, VALE, OREGON, SATURDAY, JUNE 10, 1922. COUNTY NEWS Items of Local and Personal Interest, Gathered By The Enterprise Correspondents. KINGMAN KOLONY AT LAWN FETE HONORING MR. AND MRS. C. M. BEAUMONT SATURDAY. On Saturday evening, June 3, oc curred one of the most delightful evenings of the Hummer when the community guthered en masse at the Conrad Martin home for a re ception for Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Beaumont. Music was enjoyed dur ing the evening, and the lawn illum inated by gay lanterns was the scene o& games by both young, and young older people. Delicious re freshments were served late, in the evening. The Misses Elsie Elliott and Ruby Moses entertained Tuesday evening, June 6th, at the Moses home in honor of the 17th birthday anniver sary of Miss Zenia Moses. Messrs A. G. Kingman, F. T. Morgan and II. R. Otis attended the alfalfa spraying demonstration near Ontario last week. The Children's Day program will be given at the Sunday school hour, 10:30, June 11. At the regular P. T. A. meeting, June 2, the president appointed chairmen of the several committee:; as follows: Program committee, Mrs. Conrad Martin; membership, Mrs. Walter Nichols; social, Mrs. H. Q. John ston; press, Mrs. F. T. Morgan ; legislative, Mrs. R. R. Overstreet. Mr. C. M. Beaumont of Kingman Kolony and Miss Emma Elvina Ne belsieck of Moscow, Idaho, were married at the home of the bride's sister, Mrs. Conrad Martin, at noon on Wednesday, May 31st, Rev. Welch of Roswell, Idaho, officiatinp;. Miss Nebelsieck is not a stranger in the Kolony, having made many friends here during visits in th home of her sister. Mr. Beaumont is one of Malheur county's mo::t prominent and highly esteeme. Ranchers. After a short trip M; and Mrs. Beaumont will be at' home on their Kolonys ranch. I OREGON SLOPE ! Mr. Karr of DesMolnes, Iowa, ar rived at the home of his brother, Arthur Karr, and expects to spend the summer on the Slope. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Holloway mo tored to Parma Sunday and enjoyed the day visiting their daughter, Lois. Mr. and Mrs. Otto C. Miller are the proud parents of a baby daugh ter, born Friday, June 2. Mother and baby are doing fine. A new phone has been installed at the Pennington ranch on the lowr-i flat. On Friday evening at Park schooi house at 8 o'clock a meeting of prospective lettuce growers will be held presided over by Chairman George Lattig. Mr. Dean of Nyssa will be present and plans will b- laid for providing a packing house to take care of the season's crop of lettuce. Mr. and Mrs. Phipps were guests of Mr. and . Mrs. Oporo-o SullpriQ &urxiay attemoon. Park Improvement Club held ti picnic Wednesday, May 31, at -Wei-ser Park. Those attending reported a delightful days outing. A weevil syraying demonstration was held at George Latttig's place Thursday, June 1. L. R. Breithaupt, county agent, introduced the speak ers representing the U. S. Depart ment of Agriculture Extension Ser vice. The large crowd of ranchers present listened attentively and learned the newest and best meth ods of control over this pest. Meet ings of this nature are always well attended and are very much appre ciated by local farmers. Our ball team journeyed to Pay ette river Sunday afternoon and succeeded in defeating the team at that place by the score of 11 to 5. Everyone of the bays played the game in fgood form, Oscar Grace making a spectacular catch of a fly ball that would do credit to a big leaguer. Batteries, Culbertson and Pattev son; Yeager and Woodward. The circus at Weiser drew a num ber of people from the flat last Thursday. Several ranchers are starting their mowing machines and a num ber of orchardists are putting on the cover spray for apples. Born, to Mr. and Mrs. Craven, Sunday, June 4, a son. Miss Ruby Channer left for Sa lem to make an extended visit with her brother, John Channer. Mr. F. B. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Wilcox enter tained at a luncheon Sunday even ing the following guests: Mr. nd Mrs. Arthur C. Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Arner Gorton. Helena ' Tomlin and Jean Bartsche, who have been attending nurses' training school at Baker, are en joying a two weeks' vacation with their parents. BIG BEND YOUNG COUPLE MARRY MR. AND MRS. FAY STOFER WILL MAKE THEIR HOME IN PORTLAND. Arena, Wade and District 47 had a picnic at the Park Wednesday,' May 31st. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Anderson re ceived a visit from his father, sis ter and two brothers from Golden dale, Washington, last week. Mr. Elmer Stradley and wife were home guests at the home of Wm. Stradley's Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fleetwood and daughter have returned home from their visit on Burnt river. Rev. Williams and family and Lon Boswcll and wife made a business trip to Nyssa a few days ago.. Clyde Ruddell and family from Burnt river are visiting his father, R. R. Ruddell. Miss Lou Welch is home for a few days from Boise where she has been attending business college. Miss Tuckie from' Vale was visit ing home folks Sunday and returned to Vale in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Purdy were Parma visitors Friday. Orval Faubion and Walter Strad ley made a business trip to Parma Saturday and stayed in for the pic ture show. Mr. McQuery is still on the sick list. It is reported Lela Fleetwood is quite .ill with the flu. Alice Golkee and Fay Stofer were married May 8th. They "will make their home in Portland. Mrs. John Holly, who has been in the hospital for some time in Baker, returned home Monday. This week's prayer meeting will be at the home of Reuben Basket. Everybody is invited to be present. Thos. Welch went to Vale Monday on business. Mrs. Lou Boswell has been quite ill the past week, but is some better at present. Mrs. Wm. Stradley has been sick with the flu, but was able to attend church Sunday night. Bill Cone, from Star,, is visiting home folks this week. Everybody is invited to attend Sunday school and church at the school house, every Sunday, and Young People's meeting at 7 p. m. BROGAN V. I. A. CLUB MEMBERS DECIDE TO GIVE DANCE SATURDAY EVENING. The V. I. A. club will give a dance at the Brogan community hall Saturday,' June 10. Supper will be served at midnight by the Ladies' Aid. Music will be furnished by the Huntington orchestra. Every one is invited to attend. Mrs. Jess Hamstreet went to Vale Monday to have some dental work done. Sunday school was organized Sun day under the supervision of Rev. Snow of Payette. J. A. Smith made a business trip to Baker Friday. ' Mrs. Stanley Woodward was host ess for a birthday party, in honor of her daughter, Muriel's fifth birth day anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Smith motor ed to Baker Friday. Many Brogan people attended the dance at Jamiespn .Saturday. Ben Rutherford of Ironside is a Brogan visitor this week. Mis. J. A. Smith and rhildren motored to Ontario Saturday. Qeorge Horn of Jamieson was a Brogan visitor Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Noah and son of Cairo were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Grabner Sunday. There will be Sunday school anc church at the hall Sunday, June 11. The Ladies Aid will meet at the home of Mrs. Arden ReedWednes day, June 7. J. P. Smith and Bill Lofton ol Ironside passed through here yester day enroute to Ontario. Bill Boyd and family moved to their homestead at Uonita. Mr. and Mrs. Huby Kelly and daughters Clara and Margarite are out of town visitors this week. Ernestine Locey and Gladys Ped erson were in Brogan Monday. The three year old son of Mr. and Mr. Jess Leddington is reported to be seriously ill. He was taken to Vale for treatment. J. A. Joha JC v'w- "" I WESTFALL BIG CROWD AT GAME BASEBALL TEAM WINNERS IN - GAME WITH VALE SECOND TEAM SUNDAY. The Westfall boys were out to play ball Sunday and defeated Vale's second team with the final score 21 to 3. Little Miss Thelma Harris, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Har ris, celebrated her tenth birthday anniversary at the home of her par ents between Vale and Westfall Wednesday week. A delicious birth day dinner was served. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Sandy were guests from Westfall. On Memorial Day Mr. ..and Mrs. Oliver Sandy motored to Ontario to decqrate the graves of relatives. After visiting a short time they re turned'to their home at Westfall. METHODIST LADIES' AID HAVE COOKED FOOD SALE The Cooked Food Sale held in the Diven building last Saturday and sponsored by the members of the Methodist Ladies' Aid Society, was a decided success.
