Mr. and Mrs. Albert Morfitt vis-1 ited her parents, Mr. and Mr. D. M. Ripley, at Ironside last week. Mrs. Ripley returned home with them for a short visit. G. H. Robinson visited with his family in town Sunday, A party of neighbors gathered at the home of James Minoughan Fri day night for a surprise. Frank Shumway returned home from Crowley. David Royers went to Juntura to get his cattle last week. Neva Stout returned home this week from Crane where she has been attending school. She expects to- return shortly. John Tipton has been breaking horses for C. H. Stout. There is plenty of ice to put up this winter and a good supply is being stored away. Budd Rogers, who helped Guy Shumway fill his ice house, returned home Saturday. - There' has not been si (rreat deal of spow in this country and the farmers are wishing for mors so that fhere will be plenty, of water next summer. . . . Steve Janega, who has been doing the masonry work on the new build' ing on the Crowley ranch, was a visitor in town Sunday. He reports work delayed on account of severe cold weather. v" Rush McHarge returned home on Wednesday after three weeks in Vale on court duty. Frank . Hartley, a school director, visited the school Tuesday. Mrs. Walter Starr was a dinner guest of Mrs. E. T. Mickey on Thursday. Roscoe Starr went to Albert Clarks jjbace Tuesday to look after horses which he is having fed there. Tex Martin spent Wednesday night with Charles Scribner at the Williamson ranch. Chas Scribner passed through Crowley this week on his way to Mud Flat to get a saddle horse he recently traded for. Walter Starr wa a visitor during the week for grain he recently pur chased from Tex Bart in. Mr. Starr is busy making fence posts at Ju niper Mountain. Mrs. Rush Mcllargue was a din ner guest of Msr. E. T. Mickey this week. Albert Clark called at the post office. Mrs. Clyde Williams is improving daily but is still unable to be about much. Rev. Pounds of Boise is again in the Bend. He will speak at the school house on the evening of Jan uary 31. Everyone, come. Mrs. T. D. Scott received word last week from her mother, who livea at Newburg, Or., that shn in seriously ill. She left for the Valley at once. At present no word has been received from 'her. Miss Marguriete Purdy was given a delightful surprise Monday even ing when a large number of friends called to tell her goodby. SI e will leave Parma Tuesday afternoon for California. The teachers of district No. '47 announce that a literary program Will be given on the evening of Feb will be given on the night of Febru ary 22, in lonnertion with an "Ole Fashioned Spellin' Skule." A prize one carrying off high honors us a speller. A novel feature of the evening's entertainment will be a "paper sack luncheon." furnished by the good ladies of the neighborhood. . Shafer home last Sunday, going on to the Elliott home' in the evening, where they spent the time with games and a social time. i Messrs. Otis Morgan and Simon attended the regular sale at Parma last Saturday. Mr. .Morgan added several head of young beef stock to his herd. Mr. Conrad Martin shiprd in from Moscow, Idaho, the past week a fine registered Duroc Jersey to head his pure bred hoga. Messrs Eldridge and Parsons have been on the sick list, but at present are reported greatly improved. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Crouch recently moved into the house formerly oc cupied by Mr. Wm. Moses. The Intei-mountain Instituts . at Weiser recently closed last we k for a season, a large number uf the students beinp; ill with a light form of the "flu." Merritt Greeling arrived home Saturday to spend the enforced va cation. Mrs. F. L. .Morgan entertained a delightful party Saturday afternoon, celebrating the eighth birthday of her daughter, Margaret Ann. A dainty supper was served at five o'clock. The girls . who en joy c J the afternoon are: Agnes Nichols, Jean ette Martin, Reba Moses, Polly Ed wards, EHa Reed, Christina Cluiuten- sen, Helen Powell and Margaret and Ted Morgan. A meeting of the P. T. A., will be held Friday, February 3, at 2; 30. A short program is being prepared. Grade pupils neither absent nor late during the month of January: Cora Elliott, Floyd Elliott, Harold Elliott, James McEwen, Lloyd Mc Ewen, Helen Powell, Eddie Fowelll, Ella Reed, Chester Reed, James Mc Ginnis, Jeanette Martin. Potatoes are sometimes planted in February to provide a Very early crop for table use. Earliest of all is a good variety to use in this way.
