Lees yas an Ontario legal visitor in the county seat Wednesday. G. W. Dean and Hans Oft from the Boulevard were business visitors in Vale Wednesday. ' W. C. TomlinandS. H. Corliss of Fangollano were business visitors in the city the first of the week. James Molby of Jordan Valley was registered at the Arlington Monday and Tuesday. Geo. B. Eddy was another busi ness visitor from Watson the first of the week. Mrs. G. A. Slayton of Fangollano was shopping and visiting in the city Monday and Tuesday. D. M. McDade, a well known man of Diamond, was in from that coun try the first of the week. Miss Gladys Jones of Weiser has been visiting for the past week wit'u her aunt Mrs. H. P. Stacey. Mrs. Mary McKinney, assistant postmistress, left Wednesday evening on a ten days' vacation. Mrs. Julien Hurley was visiting for several days this week with Mrs. T. M. Lowe at Nyssa. Ed Romph and Fred Richardson re turned from a trip to the Payette Lakes region Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. 0. C. Pomeroy of Denio spent several days the first of the week in Vale. Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Thomson of Brogan spent Monday and Tuesday visiting in Vale. Scott Hyde was down from West fall Monday and while here filed on his homestead at the land ofice. Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Roberts of Mountain Home were guests at the Drexel Monday and Tuesday . Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Redfield and children of Burns visited with friends in Vale over Sunday. . T. T. Nelsen returned Sunday after attending Buyers' Week in Portland and later a visit in Pendleton. Mrs. T. W. Clagett of Ontario visited at the home of Mr. and Mrn C. C. Mueller last week. Mrs. Will Jamieson of Jamiesot returned to ner nome mere alter t, brief visit in town Monday. Carsten Mueller and Millard Nelsei: left for the former's homestead above Ironsides Monday. Eldon Palmer and Edward Beach, both of Watson, visited in Vale over Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Boswell of Big Bend were visiting with former friends and acquaintances in the city over Sunday. Miss Melba House returned to hei home near Ontario Tuesday after spending a couple of weeks visiting with her aunt Mrs. J. D. House. Eldon Fortier and Richard Adams Ontario High School boys, visited it Vale for a brief time Monday ai"cer noon and while here enjoyed a plunge in the nat. ' - John Norwood motored down from the ranch near Jamieson Monday and attended to some minor business mat ters while in town. Charlie Cronin who has been work ing at Watson for some time was in Vale the first of the week. He left Tuesday morning for the mountain: in company with Jim Brannon. Mrs. Emma Anderson returned to Vale Wednesday after a long absence in Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Thayer of Jam ieson were Vale visitors Monday even eng. Mrs. I. C. Weant of Cascade return cd to her home there Tuesday after a brief visit with her sister Mrs. R. E. Weant. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce R. Kester journeyed to Boise Saturday where they visited Tuesday evening. Mr." and Mrs. Earl Smith and child ren are down from the ranch above Ironside and are visiting at the home of Miss Flora Smith at present. Harry and Ralph Page of Watson were business visitors at the land of fice the first of the week, coming in to file on homesteads. Miss Frankie Eads, who has been spending the summer at her home near Watson, was in town again for several days this woek visiting with old schoolmates. She will return, later to attend school here this fall. ;Mn and Mrs. William Westfall, who hive been living for the past several months at Ontario, visited here a couple of days last week. Mr. and Mrs. John Kircher, Dr. Harriet Sears and Miss Loui.se Sears and Elmer Wester spent Sunday at the home of Mrs. Kircher's brother in. Fruitland. Brookes returned to 1 her home at Broiran Thursday nfW ! spending several days in Vale. Miss Inez Palmer was in from Wat son for a couple of days this week. ! She will return the last of the month to attend school here the coming term. A number of Brogan and Jamieson people were down for the wrestling match Monday evei.ing... Among those in town that evening were J. M. Addington, postmaster at Brogan, P. E. Edwards, J. W. Burdick, and Mon tie McKinney of Brogan and Claud. Derrick of Jamieson. German-Linde Miss Gertrude Linde and Geo. R. German of Boise were quietly united in- marriage at the Methodist parson age Thursday evening at six o'clock by Rev. E. F. Clower. Besides a cou ple of friends from Boise, G. W. Haw of Jamieson was also present at the ceremony. Best wishes of the com munity are extended to the young couple. L. of L.'s Meet The members of the L. of L. club met at the home of Mrs. B. F. Farm er Tuesday evening. After the busi ness matters of the evening had been attended to light refreshments of lem onade and small cakes were served. The members have decided to get club pins and they also selected their club colors of old rose and pink and chose the pink sweet pea as their flower. Entertains at Bridge Mrs. L. P. Lumpee was the charm ing hostess at a bridge party at her home Saturday afternon, Mrs. Fair child, mother of Mrs. Vernon T. Her rett, winning the high honors. The decorations were beautifully carried out in seet peas. A dainty luncheon was served to the fifteen guests pres ent at the close of the afternoon. Everyone reported that an excellent time was enjoyed. Delightful Card Party A jolly group of young people met at the home of Miss Maurine Jones last Thursday evening and passed the time at cards. Dainty refreshments were served to the quests present who were Misses Helen and Vina Mueller, Lilian Davis, Maurine. Jones and Messrs. L. K. Bullock, Carsten Muel ler, Millard Nelson and William Pin ney. Junior Sunday School Party Mrs. Ferd Zutz entertained her lunior Sunday s School class of the Christian Churdh at another delight ful party last Thursday afternoon. The time passed all to quickly in laying games and telling stories. Ice .ream and cake were served as re 'roshments late in the afternoon. Informal Gathering What was a combination wedding reception, two birthday parties, am .in informal dance was held at th inch home of Mr. and Mrs. H. T stacey last Saturday evening. Th. vjdding reception was held in honoi )f Mr. and Mrs. Percy Stacey, newly veds of the past moni.h, the birthday varties in honor of Mrs. Granvall Stacey and Miss ' Gladys Jones of Weiser, and the dance just for the enjoyment of the fifty guests pres ent. Dancing was held on the spac ious verandas of the country house uitil a late houafter which bount eous refreshments consisting of sand viches, cake, ice cream and lemonade were served. Work in the hospital is progress ing riicely to the extent that extra held is needed, more patients having cqme in than can be cared for with ease by Mrs. Harris. Mrs. McGuire, another trained nurse, has been on duty also lately. Little Eugene Rollins, the five year old son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Rol- lins and well Ttnown by most of the people here, was brought down from Jamieson Sunday evening where he had been visiting his aunt. He has been seriously ill but as this is writ ten there is a Blight improvement. Dr. Stcelhammer has charge of 'the ca" - Mrs. John Ackerman of Bonita is covering after a uhort illness. Mrs. Naomi F. Harris received an urgent call from Bonita the first of the week and was absent for several days from her work tt the hospital, While gone she left Mrs. McGuire in charge. Mr. John recently bought a pumping plant with which he will irrigate his big ranch in the upper Watson section. To Attend School Here Miss Mary Johnson returned to her home here Tuesday from Payette where she has been visiting with relatives during the summer. She will attend school here this winter enrolling in the Junior clas. Returns from Ontario Frank Winston passed thru Vale last week on his way to his homestead at Boni- ta after spending several weeks in Ontario receiving treatment for blood poisoning, the result of an injury to his hand. To Visit Sister Mrs. J. D. House left Tuesday evening for Mulvane Kansas, where she will visit with hei sister Mrs, Frank Carter whom she has not seefrfor fourteen years. While east she will also visit with her brother in Oklahoma and will return here about October. Prove up on Homestead Misses Eva and Mattie Knottingham and Mrs. Nettie Blake of Fangollano came to Vale the first of the week to prove up on their homesteads which are located near that place. While here they also made a visit to the Enter prise office. Sergeant Visits Ray Donahey, first class sergeant, is in Vale visit ing this week. He arrived in the city Wednesday from Portland where he has been spending part of his thirty-days' furlough. He has just lately come across from France where he had been in service with a balloon corps for the eighteen months previ-1 Dr. Burrows Home Again Dr. R. D. Burrows, who has been away for the last two months, returned a few Jays ago from Portland. He was railed to California by the serious ill ness of his daughter and on her re covery he accompanied her to Port land. Mrs. Farmer's Brother Here Har ry Tamblyn who has just returned from France is visiting at present with his sister Mrs. B. F. Farmer. He has been in the service for three years the last year of which was spent in France with the 115th Engineers. yr-. Farmer's nephew, Geo. L. Farm er, Jr., who has also Been active ser ice overseas and was wounded, re- lirned to his home in Oakland, Cal ifornia last week after a visit of six weeks here. Upon checking up it was found that Vale charge would be a new charge this year, all claims being met in full.
