Lieutenant Vines Home Lieutcnr ant John Vines after 18 months in the aviation service returned to his home in Vale this week. Lieutenant Vines has spent most of his time at Texas . training camps and made a trip to the east just before returning home. Returns From East Manager E. C. Longwell.of the "Boise-Payette yards returned last week-end from a visit to his relatives in Missouri. " New Arrival A baby son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Struthers Inst , Thursday: Visits Sister Mr. and Mrs. Georgo Calvert of Dexter, New Mexico arc visiting their sister Mrs. L". A. Man sur of the' Arlington Hotel. SOCIETY COLUMN Afternoon Parties On Saturday afternoon March 8 and Monday afternoon March 10, Mrs. Thomns Jones and daughter Mrs. F. C. Oxman delightfully entertained a large' number of guests at the Joncb home. Saturday afternoon about six teen guests were entertained at a five hundred party. The rooms were most attractively decorated with cut flowers and bluebirds and the dining table was daintily bedecked in tht same color scheme. Mrs. H. R. Dun lop in her usual : pleasing manner sang "The "Bluebird" and "Mickey" thet Jones' pet canary "blued" for the occassion was released from his cagt, and to the great surprise of the guests flew into the room perching-gracefully on the back of a chair to help in the singing. At cards Mrs. C. C. Burrow won high honors and was awarded a bluebird luncheon set. At a late hour refreshments were served. Monday afternoon thirty guests-enjoyed a very pleasant, "Irish" after noon. Each' lady was given an Irish name upon her arrival and was so known during the afternoon. Irish stories were told and provided much merriment. Mrs O'Flannigan (Mrt. H. R. Dunlop) sang "When Irish Eyes are Smiling", Mrs. Maloney (Mrs. H. E. Young) sang "A Heart From Ker ry", Mrs. 0'Shea (Mrs. A. W. Reed) sang "Mother Macree! and Mrs. Jiggs (Mrs. F. C. Oxman) sang "You Don't Have to Come from Ireland to be Irish". Theset song's were heartily en cored and appreciated. In an Irish guessing game Mrs. Murphy, (Mrs. It. G. Wheeler) won a novel St. Patricks luncheon set. Young received word from her brother James Cook the first of the week, that he had arrived in Caldwell at the home of his parents and would soon come over to Vale to make her a short visit. ....Attend Jamieson Dance A unmber of Vale young people attended the dance nt Jamieson last Friday night and report a good time. The roads were in fnir shape for travel the worse places being just after leaving Vale and a few miles from Jamieson. New Baby Girl A seven pound baby girl was born Mr. and Mrs. Hoy Smith last Sunday. From Calgary Mrs. H. C. McansJ of Calgary is in Vale visiting at the home of her son A. G. Means. cordance with the color scheme were served. t Reception Guild hall presented a pretty scene last Thursday evening from eight to eleven when about 100 guests gather ed at the invitation of Mr. and Mra. R. E. Weant to welcome home Mr. and Mrs. Julien A. Hurley who returned that day from Salem. The event was one of the most enjoyable on the years social calendar and friends of the popular young couple came from in and out of the city to wish them the joy of a long and 'happy life. Simplicity marked the evenings enjoyment and the quests mingled most informally in social conversation and at the charmingly arranged tables where ices and cakes were served by a number of young ladies and mat rons. During the evening musical numbers both vocal and instrumental were graeiously rendered by, Mrs. A. M. Moody, Misses Helen and Vina Mueller, Mrs. H. C. Eastham, Mrs. H R. Dunlop and Mrs. George Hunting ton Currey. About eleven o'clock a party of K. P's kidnaped the bride groom and after being absent a few minutes returned him dressed as "the awkwnrd school boy" and then pre sented Mrs. Hurley with an electric grilWnd oven with the compliments of Advanced Lodge K. of P. Second Party Given On Wednesday afternoon of las' week Mrs. A. E. McGillivray gave th second of two delightful afternoor Kensington parties when she enter tained about twenty quests at he home to meet Mrs. L. F. T mcnts which were served by the hos tess and Mrs. Clark, Wednesday Bridge After being disbanded since, early last year during which time the mem bers gave full attention to war work, the members of the Wednesday after noon club met at the home of Mrs. C. L. Crandall on Wednesday of this week. Needless to say the reorgan ization of the club was a thoroughly enjoyable occasion to the many mem bers and a most pleasaqt afternoon was enjoyed. Griffin-Thompson William A. Griffin and Bessie Thompson were married at the home' of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Powell at Ontario last week, Reverend Win. J. Luscombe reading the pretty home service. The young couple left im mediately for their future home at Adams Oregon and the best wishes of friends followed them to the new home. Guild Meeting Members of the Episcopal Guild met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Wildhabcr on Thursday afterndon to enjoy their regular business and social meeting for the month. A good num ber was in attendance and a most pro fitable and enjoyable afternoon spent. . Annual Dinner Members of the Vale Monday Study Club will enjoy the annual club dinner on Monday evening at the Wm. Bohna home. Dinner Party In honor of ' Ray Johnson who re turned from active service with the 65th artillery troops a few weeks ago, Misses Helen and Vina Mueller enter tained a few friends at dinner Satur day evening. Organize Aid The Methodist Ladies met at the parsonage on Thursday afternoon to reorganize the Aid and plan a cam paign for spring work. A large number of the ladies were present. Pierpont Morgan Some years ago, when the late John "ierpont Morgan was still alive and well, needing an illustration for a book to go with a splendid poem of John Pierpont, poet of the revolution, ' wrntp tn his trrandson for a photo graph that I believed he had of an oil nainting of his grandfather. The Treat banker must have stopped right then and there when he got my note, for "within a few hours there arrived it mv office a messenger from J. P. Morgan & Company, with an auto- jraph letter from the banker himself and this is what he said: "I am a thousand times prouder of being the grandson of John Pierpont than of being the son of Junius Spencer Mor gan." His father had left him ten million dollars; but his grandfather had left him a free country and an immortal name. Sunnysidc School Entertains The Sunnyside school under direc tion of the teacher, Mrs. Jacobs have a program for' the evening of March 14 consisting of song and recitation numbers by th"e pupils. One of the feature numbers of the program is the dramatization of Little Red Riding Hood by the pupils of the school. The children have worked hard on the Par ent's Day program and will have a special guests for the afternoon th parents nnd friends of the school liv ing and near the Bonita district where the school is located.
