Oklahoma Folks Tour A big tour

morning bound for the coast. They

N. Fegtley, Monday morning received
a telegram conveying the news that
his brother, John J. Fegtley of Witch
ita, Kansas, died very suddenly Sun
day evening of apoplexy. Mr.
Fegtley was a very prominent mason
of Kansas and held many positions of
honor within the gift of the order.
Ho also had large business interests, j
Distance makes it impractical for Re
ceiver, Fegtley to leave in time to at
tend the funeral.
To Boise Mr. and Mrs. John Nor
wood of Jamieson passed thru Vale
Tuesday and stopped for a few hours
visit on their way to' Boise where
they will spend several days.
Camp Grounds Full Nearly every
evening this week from two to five
carloads of people have occupied the
free camp grounds. License numbers
read from the for east to California's
southern most cities.

was called to Baker Tuesday in re

War Saving Stamps Payments Due
Chairman Houston desires the En
terprise to notify purchasers of Warj
Savings Stamps that the July pay
ments are due and desires them to call
and got their receipts.
Receiving Back Pay Railroad men
were made happy this week by re-
ceiving their additional extra pay
which was, awarded several months
ago. This additional increase amount-
ed to 25 per cent. Secretary McAdoo
has made a strong plea for the men
to invest this mony in either bonds
or war saving b amps. March and

Since June the regular monthly pay

Casserole Itonst. A casserole may bo
Improvised by using n heavy earthen
ware dish covered with a plate. Brown
round or rump of beef lu fat from a
slice of fried pork. Place In casserole
with chopped carrot, turnip, onion, eel
cry. etc.. around It. Add two enpfuls
of water or stock, cover nnd cook lu.l
hot oven three -hours, basting occa
sionally. Meat Pie. Meat pies are made most
satisfactorily by first cooking the meal
nnd vegetables as for n stow. Line a
pan, earthenware dish or casserole with
biscuit dough rolled fairly thin. Putin
the meat, vegetables and gravy, cover
with dough uud bake In a hot oven.
.Meat Turnovers. Place any chopped
cooked meat available on circles of
biscuit dough about the size of a saucer.
Fold the 'dough over tho meat, crimp
the edges and bako In a hot oven. Veg
etables may be combined with the meat
lining as desired, and the whole may
bo .served with gravy.
Veal or Beef Birds. Cut very thin
meat. Into roughly rectangular pieces
of a sufficient size for individual serv
ings. Place on each a stuffing of bread
crumbs, seasoned with chopped onions
and other flavoring vegetables nnd
herbs. Fold or roll up tho moat and
skewer In placo with toothpicks. Brown
the rolls In fat. remove and make gravy
from tho fat. flour and stock If avail
able. Place tho rolls In the grnvy and
cook slowly until tender In a covered
baking dish, a steamer or a flrelcss
cooker.

Social Functions Enjoyed
by People of Vale.
Entertains Bridge Club
Mrs. R. G. Wheeler very delightfully
entertained the members of the after
noon bridge club at her home on Wed
nesday afternoon. The meeting was
a special social day and much enjoyed
by members and guests present. Four
tables enjoyed the afternoon at bridge
and several ladies brought their knitt
ing and passed the afternoon hours.
Light refreshments were -served at the
close of the afternoon the hostess be
ing assisted by Mrs. R. D. Lytic.
Dance for Soldier Boys
The Knights of Pythias were hosts
Tuesday evening with a dance in
honor of the drafted men who left the
following day for Camp Lewis. Pro-
cccds of the dancc were Put to tho
patriotic use of buying war Saving
Stamps. A largo crowd of towns-
People and out of town friends of the
bys enjoyed the evening together.

OREGON' MINERAL PRODUCTION
Seventy-Six Mines Gold, Copper and
Silver Produce $2,270,874.
Government figures compiled by
Chas. G.. Gale of tho U. S. Ceological
survey have been issued on the mineral
production of Oregon for the year
1917, which shows there are 76 gold,
silver and copper mines- in the state
which produced $2,270,874, being $G5G
604 less than 191G. There wero 32
less mines operated than in the pre
vious' year.
The placer mines produced $727,
3G5 and quartz $764,432 in gold. 2,
474,487 pounds of copper from Baker
and Josephine counties, tho balance
of the state only producing 1000
pounds. Of tho 125,656 fine ounces
of silver Baker county was first pro
ducing 100,663, Grant next with 23,-'
052 ounces.
Of tho total mineral value of the
state of $2,270,874, Baker county pro
duced $1,689,601, Josephino next with
370,981, Grant third with $150,715,
leaving scattered over tho state in
nino counties $53,500.
