Brogan. of Beulah. was trans acting business in the county seat dur ing the week. Jack Gillette went 'to Jamieson this week, where he will be employed on a stock ranch near that city. Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Cole, of Jun tura, were in the city this week on business and visiting friends. Riley M. Horn, pioneer stockman of Malheur county, was in Vale from Nyssa the first of the week, W. S. Fred Vogue, a former, Vale resident, but who is at present located at Wei ser, Idaho, was in the city Monday. T. B. Selby returned home last week from Nebraska, where he was called suddenly by the serious illness of his father, who passed away soon after Mr. Sclby's arrival. Miss Evelyn Brown, came to Vale last week, leaving a day or so later to take the school at Watson for a summer term. Erbie Hayes, formerly of this city, and who is now manager of the Ford garage at-Ontario, came up Sunday in his big Overland car to visit friends and relatives in the city for a time. Mrs. J. B. McLaughlin went to Jam ieson last week, to visit her daughter, Mrs. Jno. Norwood for a few days, returning home Tuesday. Dan Kerfoot, ex-sheriff of Malheur county, was in the city the latter part of last week from Ontario: Mr. Ker foot spent a couple of days in town renewing acquaintances, and visiting old friends. A party of visitors from Unity were in Vale Tuesday. They were: Ben J. Faust, Blanch Wittcmore, J. G. Da vis and A. R. Husbands. State Gamo Warden Carl D. Shoe maker, arrived in the city Wednesday, from Roseburg. Mr. Shoemaker was ,the guest, while here, of the South eastern Oregon Game Association, whoso headquarters are at Vale. G. V. Clovenger, of Burns, who owns a large furniture store- at that place, was a business visitor in Vale the latter part of last week. G. R. Dickson, of 'Ironside, was among the Vale visitors from that country the first of the week. E. Hatterbury, Edw. Turner, Sam Armstrong, Mr. Pritchard constituted a party of Riverside arrivals in the city Wednesday. Services were held at the Catholic church last Friday evening. Rev. F, Farmer, of Vale, are visiting their friends in the Kol ony this week. Mr. Farmer had some surveying to do in the vicinity and made use of tho opportunity to com bine business and pleasure. Tuesday afternoon Mr, Kingman and Miss Kingman gave an afternoon party in Mrs. Farmer's honor. About fifteen ladies gathered for the occasion and spent a pleasant afternoon over their needlework. Nyssa Journal, Appoints Deputy Assessor, Assessor Carlyle was in town Fri day on official business. While here he appointed Chas. Van Buren as dep uty of this section. We are pleased to see Mr, Van Buren receive this po sition and believe that he will prove a fair and competent officer. Golden Rule Rcbekah Lodge No. 64 held a meeting at the I. O. O. F. hall Tuesday night, at which initiation was the order of the evening, after which a social time and lunch was enjoyed. At this meeting Mrs. T. T. Nelsen was elected delegate to the Grand Lodge at Eugene next month. Monday Club. The Monday club will meet at tho home of Mrs. C. C. Mueller on Mon day, April 9, at three o'clock. Sunbonnct Social. The ladies aid' of the M. E. church will hold their monthly social meet ing at the home of Mrs. Ellis on Tuesday afternoon, April 10, at three o'clock, in form of a Sunbonnet social. A unique entertainment for the guests is promised and all ladies are cordial ly invited to attend. To Give Play. According to plans now-under way the Episcopal Guild will have a home talent play ready for seat sales in the near future. Short, rehearsals are be ing held now and the ladies are work ing out somo clever ideas to' be used on the opening night. Oyster Supper. The beautiful ring ceremony was used. A Birthday Party Garland Hurley, son of Mr, and Mrs Gus Hurley, celebrated his 'seventh birthday on Thursday afternoon at tho homo of his grandmother, Mrs. A. M. Hurley, with a birthday party at which the pupils of the second grade and teacher were guests. A jolly time "was enjoyed" by the houseful of children.
