Mrs. J. S. Lane, of Wilmington, N. J., who is visiting with her son, Clar ence Lane at Brogan, spent Sunday in Vale. James S. Bogart, one of Boise's leading real estate dealers, accompan ied by his son, N. I. Bogart, Tom Ven able and Wm. Schneider, spent Sunday in Vale, and went from here to the Brogan country. They drove over from Boise in an auto, and will visit the interior country before returning. Mrs. R. G. Wheeler returned home Sundav from McMinnville, where she went as a delegate to the Rebekah con vention last week. Dr. A. G. Moore, of Ontario, was in the city Monday. Mrs. Delia Jones came over from Ontario last week and lias been visit ing with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gellerman, and other relatives and friends , in Vale. She left yester day for Portland, where she will join her husband and they will make that city their futurtf home. Miss Mabel Ridgley. teacher in the 7th grade of the Vale schools, returned Friday to her home at Jamieson for the vacation President J. S. Edwards of the First National Rank of Vale is reported seriously sick at his residence in the city, with an attack of pneumonia. Hill arrived home Tuesday from McMinnville, where he went last week as a delegate to the I. O. 0. F. Grand Lodge. Mr. Hill spent a few days visiting in Portland, and came up as far as The Dalles by boat, enjoying, his first trip through the Cascade T ocks on the Columbia river. He reports an excellent time at Grand Lodge, saying there was just enough opposition ' in the election of officers to make the meeting spicy. Hi Dorris was down from Jamieson the first of the week and spent a few days in Vale. M. Byrd of Juntura being the only appli cant to take the examination. Fred Gellerman has purchased a new five passenger Case touring car and is now busy learning to engineer the ma chine. Mr. Gellerman served an ap prenticeship in his younger days break ing and branding horses, and has earn ed the privilege of riding on the cush ions the remainder of his days. Mr. Gellertran has passed the three scores and ten allotted to man, and his friends thought he was not game to tackle the horseless wagon at his age, although he has been talking auto for the past year or so, but he is a pretty good sport yet, and is already handling the buzz-wagon as scientifically and cer tain as he used to handle the "bronc." Charles Kester, of Unity, was in the city last week and filed on an addition al 160 acres to his homestead. Thos. J. Claggett was over from On tario Monday. T. R. Mrs. Coburn, accompanied by her nieces, Dollie and Ora Lawrence, went to Ironside Saturday, where they will spend the summer. Chilton A. Bowman, of Payette, be came a citizen of Malheur county Mon day by filing on a 160 acre homestead in God's country. C. F. Mathews, of Skullsprings, was in the city the latter part of last week. James Morfitt, of Malheur, spent a few days in Vale on business the first of the week, returning home Wed nesday afternoon. T. P. Worsham was in the city Tues day and Wednesday and made a filing on 280 acres of homestead land while here. D. K. Kelsay, from Lewiston, Idaho and who was one of the settlers on the Twin Falls tract, arrived In Vale last week in search of a location in the Malheur Valley." - . This week he succeeded in securing what he wanted, having purchased ' the Linebarger ranch from John and Geo. McLaughlin, this place being only a few miles west of Vale. Mr. Kelsay contemplates making numerous improvements on the ranch immediately, among which will be 'the construction of a commodious modern home and adequate farm buildings, and will make this one of the model farms of the valley. ' WOOL ARRIVING MORE RAPIDLY Manager Timbrell of the Interior Warehouse company states that the wool clips have been coming in stead ily, the Ward clip is about all in and McConnell Brothers, Donald McLeod, Gordon & Sutherland and others are just depositing their first loads. "The estimate I gave you last weelf was underestimated?" said Mr, Tim brell, "and from present indications' the clips enumerated will reach half a million pounds instead of 340,000 aa first estimated. E. railroad just west of Vale, received a arload of merchandise Monday, and IS now busy unpacking and putting them on exhibition in his new store. The store building is the old Grange all. bought by Mart Hansen and mov ed over to the new townsite. Mr. Hansen haa remodeled the building and nut it into first class condition for the accomodation of the new mercantile establishment.
