P. Frank Mulkey accompanied the ex cursionists to Ontario Sunday. Charles Crandall's motorcycle skidded with him Sunday as he was turning a street corner near the school house, the 400-pound machine overturning and catchine Charles beneath it. Young Crandall's left leg was badly cut and he was severely bruised otherwise, though not seriously injured. James Cook, who was ridinir with him. on the new tan dem attachment, was also somewhat bruised. W. A. Pinney. manager of the Ore- iron and Western Colonization company, was in Vale the first of the week from Ontario. County Surveyor Miller made a trip to the Riverside section last week, sur veying out the new county roads. Frank M. Vines was looking after road matters in the Junctura country a few days last week. Walter Campen, janitor at the school house, has been ouite seriously sick the past few weeks with an attack of rheu matism. He has been under treat ment at the Vale Hot Springs Sanitar ium. Wm. Mcintosh and his brother, bi cycle doctorsj have invested in a live bobcat for a pet. Clinton Woodward, the popular base ball pitcher, is salesman at the Alex ander Co. dunne the absence of Manager Ed Hamilton. Earl Pollock returned Tuesday from a few weeks visit to Jamieson. FRUITS GUAGED A housewife who has made careful records of the amount of fruit she ha used for preserving or jelly making, keeping at the same time, a record of the amount after the canning cooking process, says that five boxes of cur rants will yield nine glasses of jelly. Seven pounds of peaches will make 15 glasses of marmalade. Four quarts of quinces will make 10 glasses of jelly. Four quarts of crabapples will make 10 glasses of jelly. Six pounds of peaches will make eight pint jars of preserved peaches. Four pounds of plums will make five pint jars of preserves. Newark News.
