Emil Tschirgi and D.M.Bronan vis ited Payette Saturday and Sunday, March 15-16, for the purpose of pur chasing some teams for farm use at Brogan. Dr. F. L. Williams, is the owner of a fine new automobile. Dr. Cart J. Bartlett Is visiting his parents in a new Ford car. R. H. DeArmond was in town Sat urday, March 15, on business before the county court. W. A. Wheeler, grand master I p. O. F., visited Vale on Saturday and Sunday. The grand master is making a tour of the eastern portion of the state, expecting to complete his travels in time to meet with the grand lodge in May at Medford. J. Lennon and D. J. Patterson were in Sunday, March 16, from the Great Western oil well. They are pulling the casing in order to repair it prior to proceeding with the opera tion of shutting off the water. Capt. Frank Barrett left March 16 for Portland on business connected with his well drilling operations near Vale. C. N. McArthur, speaker of the House at Salem, during the last leg islature, visited Vale on Saturday and Sunday, March 15 16, on legal matters. Mr. McArthur was exceed ingly jubilant over the accomplish ments of the people's represents tives, and considers the outlook good for the republicans at the next elec tion. E. Lanoir and wife of Brogan were in town Monday, March 17. Mr Lanoir has one of the best orchards in that section, which is just coming into bearing. J. O. Mac Auley, representing the N. A. Book Co. of Tacoma and Al berta, Canada, viesited Vale Sunday and Monday, March 16-17. "Sunny Jim" Rogers the genial proprietor of the P. O. cigar store, made an over-Sunday visit with rela tives and friends at Huntington. (J. w. Thebaud returned from a visit to his Idaho stock ranch near Glenn's Ferry March 17. Mr. The baud reports the thoroughbred stock on the ranch as doing well and pros pects bright for a good season in Ida ho. Mrs. Thebaud is visiting her family in Denver and will return to Vale shortly. Miss Grace Covey arrived Tuesday from Portland. Miss Covey will be the guest of Mrs. Wes Caviness for some weeks. Homer Gilliam of Ontario visited Vale Monday, March 17. C. R. Walker of Juntura was in Vale Tuesday, March 18, on business. S. H. Seaweard of Cord was regis tered at the Drexel March 18. Grandpa Julius Topelt, who has been spending the winter with his son at Doty, Washington, returned to Vale Wednesday, and went out to his homestead near town. FIRE COMES NEAR DESTROYING HOME Defective Flue Causes Fire at the Home of Councilman Humphrey Saxon Humphrey nurses a burned hand, and is contemplating repair ex penses to his residence occasioned by a defective hue. Tuesday a.m. the councilman discover ed that his home wps on fire a-ound his chimney, but by strenuous work suc ceeded in putting it out, pumping water and throwing it on the flames. Damage probably $100. EXPERTS AUDIT COUNTY BOOKS Messrs. Crandall and Roberts, ex pert auditors, made a careful examin ation of the books of Malheur county, and the report of the finanical condi tion published on the editorial page of March 15 was the result of their ex amination. They found everything m gooo con dition and their report in full is on file in the offices of the county. CIVIC IMPROVEMENT CLUB STARTS CLEAN UP CAMPAIGN IN VALE The Civic Improvement Club pro poses to commence a campaign for a clean town, and they announce a "Swat the Fly" dance Monday even ing, March 24, at the opera house. Grand March 9:16 Good music. Tickets $1.00. Refreshments during the evening free. Everyone should attend, as the funds will be used for the purpose of disenfecting, destroying the fly and fly germs. ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARTY A St. Patrick party was given by Clarice Edwards to a number of her friends at her home March 15. Half of the girls went dressed as boys.
