WUlnVikiil t lie Ailit"M Contractor Bayles, of this city, re ceived a picture on last Monday from his partner, Alex McDonald, showing the progress that had already been made upon the $30,000 high school building being erected by the firm of Bayles & McDonald in Burns. The photograph showed the rock work of the high .basement all competed and part of the brick work of the first story underway. The basement is built of the native stone, a pink colored rock, which - is said to make up a beautiful effect, and eight or nine feet of this work is above ground. The building will be eight class rooms besides other small rooms for offices, etc. The basement of the new Burns school will contain a gymnasium, play rooms for boys and girls, domestic science room, lavatoiies, shower baths, fuel room, furnace, etc. A deep pit has been excavated from the west to the center where the air chamber is built of brick which is a part of the plan for proper ventila tion. The pure air is carried to the various rooms on the floors above through large pipes in the walls. The septic tanks are provided for off from the building and a sanitary drink ing fountain is to be installed in the basement. The building will probably be com pleted about the first of August. The Harney County News of Burns, in last weeks issue contained a special write-up of the progress on the new school building, and further said: The contractors, Messrs, Bayles & Mc Donald, are surely giving the district faithful, honest work, and it is doubt ful, if there has ever been as good a building put up for the money in east ern Oregon as this will be. They are also agreeable gentlemen to meet and are always pleased to show visit ors over the structure and explain all its details. Want Advertisements! FOR SALE Potatoes. The Alington.
