Gillaspi, a resident of the Drewsey section, was attending to business matters in our citv this week. N. J. Minton, one of the most in fluential residents of Nyssa, was i county seat caller Tuesday. E. F. Bruce and C. M. Martin, of Boise, were Vale visitors Sunday over this section of the country. Dr. Looney reports the birth of a boy to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Selby on Inst Saturday. Mrs. F. G. Morss, accompanied by Miss Baker, both of Nyssa, attended the Schumann-Heink concert in Boise the latter part of last week. Mrs Morss is well-known in this city, having lived here for several months last fall while tier husband, Assistant Engineer Morss was in charge of the work in the local railroad yards. Misses Lila Jones and Edith Neely went to Ontario Friday afternoon of last week from there they joined the theater excursionists to Weiser They returned Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Oxman and son. of Jamieson, where guests of friends in town over last Sunday. Mrs. H. C. Neely returned the latter part of last week from Union where she had visited for the past month. Beck Bros, left Wednesday for Brogan, going to Vale, where they will be engaged on grading on the Oregon Eastern, says the Huntington News. County Commissioner M. D. Kelley of Jamieson, was in town the latter part of last week. He had just re turned from a trip to Huntington. John Howard, a prominent sheep man of Westfall, was in the city the fore part of the week on business. He visited at the home of his sitser, Mrs. A. C. Gilham. Mesdames. H. R. Dunlop and S. D. Taylor returned Sunday morning from several day s visit in Boise where they heard Mme. Schumann Heink. They were lavish in their praxes of the great singer. W. S. Cooley of Beulah was a Vale business visitor the fore part of the week. Fred Hartenbower, of Caldwell, who put in the plumbing and heating plant in the new passenger depot, was in town last Sunday. Buck Helean and wife were in town Sunday. Mr. Helean is a member of the railroad contracting firm or Helean Bros., who last week began grading operations this side of the mouth of the Malheur canyon on the Oregon Eastern. Lewis Hall returned on Sunday morning from Prairie City and Baker on a two week's business trip. While at Prairie City, he visited his parents who are residents of that city. Jas. Lawrence, of the First Na tional Bank of this city, returned Monday from an over-Sunday visit in Ontario. Mrs. M. Hall, of LaGrande, was a Vale visitor last Monday and Tuesday. W. J. Pinney, manager of the Ore gon & Western Colonization Co., for this county, was up from Ontario last Monday and drove out to the Hurley railroad construction camp on the Tom Boston place. Thos. Jones, of the Malheur Coun ty Abstract company, of this city, was an Ontario visitor Monday and Tuesday. Rev C. E. Hellman, of the local Methodist Episcopal church, left on Monday for Wallowa to attend a con ference of the ministers of that de nomination for this district. County Commissioner C. W. Mai lett came up to this city Monday to attend a session of the county court. William Plugoft has sold his New Plymouth, Idaho, paper to Walter W. Martin of Sweet, Idaho. Fred Johnson returned to his home in Malheur City Tuesday morning after a few days' visit in this city and Boise. Construction Engineer D. H. Ash ton was in town Tuesday to see how the improvement work in the local railroad yards was progressing. Mrs. ' Frank Mogan returned on Tuesday morning from a visit with Ontario relatives. The post-office at Rockville, Idaho, has been moved down to Frank Mul linix's place on Succor creek. This will be quite an advantage to the res idents of that locality, but will make the stage from Caldwell to Jordan Val ley travel several miles further through an adode country which be comes almost impasable in wet weather. Jordan Valley Express. Contraction Engineer O. S. Osborn of the Oregon Eastern railroad, ac companied by his wife, were passer gers on Sunday's train bound for Boise and Salt Lake on a few days' trip. Attorney John L. Rand and Judge Clifford, both of Baker, were in town Monday on legal business. A new complaint filed in the circuit court is that of Frank A. Kime ver sus J. L. Sells. At the annual meeting of the Ore gon Conservation Association held in Portland on March 18, the delegates favored a change in the date of the opening of the season for hunting big game from August 1 to September 1. It also endorsed the United States Senate bill providing for an approba tion of $50,000 to be used for pro pagating salmon in water controlled by the Government. Mrs. J. F. Miller and little son Tom, are expected to return from Boise the fore part of next week. Tom having sufficently recovered from his recent operation at the St. Luke hos pital to stand the trip home. Mrs. S. D. Taylor accompanied her husband Dr. Taylor to Portland on Tuesday, where the doctor will attend the session of the county physicians of the state. Ontario visitors in this city Tues day were Edward Orcutt and W. E. Poyser. G. H. Bridvell, wife and child ar rived in town Tuesday afternoon from their home at Jamieson on a few days' visit. Mrs. Elizabeth Staples returned to her home in Ontario Sunday after a week's visit at the home of her daughter, Mrs Thomas Jones, and her son, Postmaster Vergil Staples. Attorney Brooke, of Ontario, while in town Wednesday reported many new people coming to Ontario and that a large number of residences were being erected. Vergil B. Staples, Vale's new post master, severed his connection with the Malheur Forwarding Company the latter part of last week, and is now getting acquainted with the routine business in Uncle Sam's office. Mr. Staples will not take official charge of the local postoffice until the first of April and it may be as late as the fifth, due to ome small details as to his official commission from headquar ters. John E. Johnson went over to Coun cil, Idaho, on Wednesday to join his wife who had been visiting her sister Mrs. Martin P. GifTord for sorr.e weeks. Mr. Johnson had received word that Mrs. Johnson was not feel ing well and that she could not make the trip home alone. Two Sisters from the Ontario hos pital were visitors in Vale Wednes day. F. S. Gwilliams, local manager of the Vale Flour & Feed Store, went to Caldwell Wednesday for a few days business visit. Born to Mr. and Mrs. William Wilton on St. Patrick's Day, a ter pound boy. Mother and child doing well. C. O. Thomas left for Parma Tues day on a few days' business visit. Chas. Slaten, of Yellowstone, Mon tana, Jack Flynn of Montana, and Joe Cooper of North Dakota, were in Vale this week looking over this secton of the country with a view of locating. Some people who are always talk ing about how mean other people are, rear up like a kangaroo when their own character is attacked. - Miss Mabel O'Neil, who is attend ing the Sisters' school in Boise, was the guest of her parents over Sunday. K. W. Freeman, of Omaha, Nebr., was a Vale visitor this week and is looking over this section. H. P. Osborne, who made a trip up the val'ey Wednesday, reports 'rail road construction work progressing rapdly and that the subcontractors are averaging over a half a mile per day. Mrs. Chas. B. Tapp,arrived in town from Westfall Wednesday and will make her home here this summer. Mr. Tapp, who has charge of the band boys in the interior town, will return to Vale later. During the summer he expects to develop his farm acreage in the Willow River Valley near Jamieson. J. D.
