MBLCET CAMP FIRE
PERMIT IN OREGON NOW
Due to the forest fire situation In
Oregon, Acting District Forester E.
N. Kavanagh has Issued Instructions
to all federal officers In tho state
to require permits for camp flros
on National Forest lands,, to be ef
fective immediately. It Is the first
time that such a rule has been put
into effect in Oregon.
"Tho forests aro very dry,, many
fires aro starting and tho extreme
necessity ot care with fire in tho
woods was never so important, and
tho public is urgently asked to rea
lize this danger to Oregon's most
valuable resource," says Mr. Kav
anagh. Permits for building camp fires
on National Forest lands In tho
States of Washington and Califor
nia and the extremely dry conditions
of forest lands in Oregon make the
permit system absolutely necessary,
forest officers say. The Instruc
tions provide that suitable signs
shall be placed at entrances to the
National Forests regarding the ne
cessity of camp fire permits, as well
as at ranger stations and summer
reseorts, and the widest publicity
Is being given to the new rule.
Season permits will bo Issued only
to regular users of the forests such
as men In charge of livestock and
going operations on tho National
Forests. At specially prepared camp
roufids where there Is a forest of
ficer In charge, as at Eagle Creek,
no permit will be required, tho In
