Kavanagh has Issued Instructions to all federal officers In tho state to require permits for camp flros on National Forest lands,, to be ef fective immediately. It Is the first time that such a rule has been put into effect in Oregon. "Tho forests aro very dry,, many fires aro starting and tho extreme necessity ot care with fire in tho woods was never so important, and tho public is urgently asked to rea lize this danger to Oregon's most valuable resource," says Mr. Kav anagh. Permits for building camp fires on National Forest lands In tho States of Washington and Califor nia and the extremely dry conditions of forest lands in Oregon make the permit system absolutely necessary, forest officers say. The Instruc tions provide that suitable signs shall be placed at entrances to the National Forests regarding the ne cessity of camp fire permits, as well as at ranger stations and summer reseorts, and the widest publicity Is being given to the new rule. Season permits will bo Issued only to regular users of the forests such as men In charge of livestock and going operations on tho National Forests.
