Mrs. Woods and daughter went to Portland, Wednesday, shopping. Five hundred feet of fire hose have been received for the fire department. The Misses Van Allen of Salem were visiting Katie Brewer last Sunday. :Mrs. W: L! Skipton, of Salem, visited her sister-in-law, Miss Skipton Thursday. Don't be "asleep at the switch" sleep while you sleep and -work while you work. Miss Harold is to be congratulated for the thorough cleaning she gave the fruit room. Mr. Becker, our plumber, went to Port land one day last week to attend the Rose Carnival. Mis. Chalcraft and Alice spent a few days with friends in Portland during the Rose Fiesta. The wagon makers are now doing "si lent" work, and you should see the. 'fin ished work pile up. There was no sociable last Friday evening in order to give the athletes for the McMinnville field meet on Monday, a good rest. All those who attended school in town are now on their vacation, but Ella Brewer, who is still going, making up the lost time. . ' Miss Caroline P. Koester, clerk, left for Yreka, Calif., where she, will spend her summer vacation at her home, with relatives and friends ' Three hundred wool blankets have been received. Though the weather ma n has not predicted a cold winter, it is al ways safe to be prepared,- We learn in a letter from Mrs. Brewer that Gertrude is recovering. We hope that we shall soon be able to see her around therounds and well. Miss Anna Bender accompanied Miss Katie.. Brewer to Portland, Tuesday morning. Miss Brewer left for Tacoma, where she will spend her vacation. Strawberries were selling at $1.00 a crate this week and the mess and private families took advantage, of this price and canned and preserved large quantities. Misses Helen Dillstrom, Margaret Lovvry and Virginia Garry will represent Chemawa at the Y. W. C. A. Northwest Conference to be held on June 18 at Breakers,- Wash. The engineers have been busy this week cementing the floor in the furnace room where the new car track is now be ing extended with curved rails for the wood car track. The first Daily Industrial Report that goes into the disciplinarian's office after the work whistle blows always comes from the printing office, reporting all unless sick or excused. Miss Ethel Parrish, who. graduated Monday evening from the Academic De partment of Willamette University, was the recipient of many beautiful floral remembrances from her Chemawa friends. Miss Parrish has made an ex cellent record throughout her collegiate work at Willamette University and ha many warm friends in the faculty and student body.
