Mr. Burdett and a force of boys were leveling off the ground around the lava tory of Brewer Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday. ' Mr. Westley and Philip Purns made a trip to the Salem iron works in a hay rach on Tuesday and brought back some fixtures for the Chemawa engineering department. The lawn mowers have been in use last week and the lawns are in first-class condition. The rose bushes along the walks have been cultivated and it will be only a short time before they are in: bloom. Sod has been placed in front of the new. gymnasium and back of the small boys' home and the soil prepared , for grans seed. . . The remodeling work on the old hospi tal building, which is to be used for dress making and domestic science department, is nearly completed. It has been re plastered arid a new floor has been laid in every room. The old wires have been removed and new ones put in. The plumbers are at work on the pipes and lavatories at present. Nonpareil. ...... The Nonpariel : Soci&ty met in their usual place on Thursday evening. Our critic, Mr. Enright, being absent, Mrs. Campbell acted as critic. The evening was spent in the election of new C'fflcers, as follows: President, Levi Sortor; Vice President, Henry Darnell; Secretary, Calvin Darnell; Treasurer, Eugene Wil liams; Sergeant-at-Arms, Mary Gibeau; Assistant Sergeant-at Arms, Eugene An derson; Reporter, Mat tie Zimmerman. LOCALS 4 Joe Dillstrom went to Salem on Thursday. Mrs. Donald Campbell entertains her friends with many beautiful selections on the violin. '.' Mr. and Mrs. Moran left Wednesday for Portland. Seldom a day passes without some boy or girl being made happy by the arrival ofthei? parents or other relatives who come to visit and to see for them selves what "Uncle Sam's" educators are . doing for the betterment of the sons and daughters. The Honeyman Hardware Co. of Port land will present a silyer loving cup to the winning team in the 50-mile Salem Portland relay race to be run May 1. It is a handsome cup , and will help to stimulate tlra contesting teams. Chema wa must sure win that cup' and the ten gold medals to be presented to the winners.
