6 THE CHEMAWA AMERICAN THE ENGINEERS' PARTY, The Ohemawa Students Engineers' Union gave a banquet in the auditorium Tuesday evening in commemoration of their new organization, and the comple tion of the additional improvements of the engineering department.. The hall was beautifully and artistically decorat ed with ever-greens, flags and pictures. The principal attraction was the artistic manner in which the many lights were . arranged, with blue and gold crepe run ning from each globe to the walls and ceiling of the building. A light sign containing the letters aC. S, E. U." add ed much to the decorations. Mr. Moran, instructor of the engineer ing department, &ave an opening address on behalf of his student department and the C. E. U , stating that the even ing marked the most important event in the history of the Chemawa engineers. He spoke of the progress his students have made in the past' and of the great er opportunities they now have for ad vancement since the completion of the class room, and other improvements which makes the plant the best in the Indian Service, and the interest taken in the welfare of the departmant through the C. S. E. U. A grand march to the music of Tay lor's select band was the first of the well carried out plans for the evening's en joyment. A short program of songs, and recitations was well rendered. Different games were on every table and drop the handkerchief, Jerico, and other games were much enjoyed by. the youngsters present. Mr Gordon, assistant engineer, gave some encouraging remarks in regard to the splendid opportunities in store for the engineers and wished them success in every undertaking. The last but not the last well received part of the program was the partaking of the delicious re freshments consisting of ham sandwiches, cocoa, pickle's, pie, cookies, oranges, nuts, candies, ice cream and cake, liberally parsed by competent waiters. Among the guests present were Sapt. Chalcraft, Mr. and Mrs. Teabo, Miss Rover, Miss Bender, - Mr. Larsen and Mr. -'Wat kins and each engineer's lady friend. The last member was a vocal trio, ''Good Night Ladies," after which the gentlemen escorted the ladies to their buildings, thus ending one of the most successful and enjoyable evenings ever spent in the auditorium JUDGE JOHN ,L. CHILDS. The Hon. John L Childs, judge of the superior court of Del Norte county, Cali fornia, arrived at the school last Sunday with a party of 'five boys and five girls from that section. Judge Childs is a warm friend of the Indians and stands for their rights in his section. He is an ardent advocate of industrial education for the Indian and an active friend of Chemawa. On Sunday evening he addressed the student body and gave them a great deal of good advice in his short speech. We only" regret that his stay bad. to be so short due to business at the other end of the .line. Judge Childs arrived from ("resent City, Calif., last Sunday with the follow in 2: boys and girls to attend school: Robert Jake, Herbet White, James Brown, Eddie Grimes, Lona John, (returned) Mabel John, Lottie White, Bessie Brown and Letsie Grimes.
