The Excelsior Literary Society held an election meeting last Thursday evening and the following officers were elected: Klla Brewer, President; Helen Dillstrom, Vice-President; Margaret Lowry, Record ing Secretary;- Joe Dillstrom. Sergeant-at-Arms; Dora Clausen, Assistant Serjeant-at-Arms; and Helen Harnden, Treasurer. You must not think that the Excelsiors have just been re-organize 1 this year be cause you have not read of their weekly meetings in the paper for some time. The reasons for this are many, but it is safe not to give any out for the mere at tempt to do so will surely result in failure. Since it is the custom of this society to hold an inaugural evening the follow ing week of an election, we may be anie to publish next week interesting speeches from the old and new officers, provided we can secure competent steno graphers for the evening. Reliance 1 he Reliance Literary Society met at its regular place Thursday evening and found business "piled high". First, after opening we found John Taylor, John Brown, James Olney, John Mason,, Thomas Philips and Peter LaMoose, who were desirous of becoming members of our society. They were balloted on and elected. The rest of the evening was taken up in the election of officers for the coming term. The following officers were elected: President, John Brown, Vice-President, James Olney; Secretary, Frank Rosenburg; Sergeant-at-Arms, Simon Mathews; Reporter, John Mason. The Reliance is composed of the best material below the seventh grade and as one can see in our officers' roster some of them are locally noted on Chemawa's gridiron. The same applies to members as well as our officers. William Ingram was out from the Asylum farm Sunday. In less than five minutes after the -morning work whistle had blown Mr. Gordon's report was in the disciplin arian's office that his detail of six boys were all present. This promptness de serves mention, others had better take example.
